Hi guys,
How can I find out when my car was originally purchased? I bought a used 2006 IS350 w/ 20K mileage and I need to get some work done at the Dealer (passenger mirror no longer moves up or down). I had the car at the Dealer today and they are telling me that the car was out of warranty because the purchase date was january 2006.
So I left the Dealer, went home and I logged into the Lexus Drivers website https://secure.drivers.lexus.com/lexusdrivers/home
I looked under the Service History section and the 1st entry was:

Dealer Reported 08/16/2006 Rallye Lexus 15 0251966 PRE DELIVERY INSPECTION FILL UP CAR WITH GAS

Wouldn't this date be when the car was 1st purchased? If not, how can I find out when the Original Purchase Date was?

i thought u can log into the lexus account and it will tell you when the car was originally purchased.

You can also check out carfax. Carfax report should tell you when the car was purchased.

funnie, I thought it would show me that information also, but I can't seem to find it anywhere on the site. The only place where I can find any info on the car is in the Service History section.

That should be it--show them that info, and tell them they need to show you what they are looking at. I looked in my service history, and the first entries were right before I picked the car up a purchase. The highlighted "15" is the milage.

tex, thanks - that is exactly what I thought. They way I looked at the service report, I am warrantied until August 2010.
They have to order the mirror, so when I go back there I will bring them a print-out of the service history and ask them where they are getting their info from.

I'd make them give you something in return for making you have to make a second trip--free LPS settings?

I just want them to explain to me why they told me the car was purchased in January of 2006.
BTW... what is LPS?

i also purchased my '06 is350 used and i recalled that the way i was able to confirm the delivery date was by looking at the autocheck/carfax records. to confirm, i also had the dealership print out the VIN records and it was consistent with the other records. all the records confirmed that the car was 'activated' 12.09.05...although the online lexus service record shows the first entry as 07.27.06 as getting wiper blades replaced. see if you can have your service advisor print out a full record for you to compare, best of luck to you!

Thanks for the info smokey, I thought I could find this info w/o having to pay for a carfax but if thats the only way I can verify this then I guess I have no choice (I'm not taking the Dealers word for it).

I went and got a carfax report on the car last night and it shows that the 1st owner (I'm the 2nd) bought the car in August of 2007. It also shows that the car was manufactured and shipped to the original Dealer in July of 2006 - so now I'm really curious why the Dealer told me it was originally bought in Jan 2006.

Is it possible that these records (Carfax & the Lexus Drivers website service history) I have are wrong? I get the feeling that something sleazy is going on.

Maybe they just made a mistake. Maybe they looked up the wrong owner's records. Just ask.
