Both buttons need to be depressed.....
IF they changed the wiring in the 2010's.. At most you will have to tap the dark orange wire in side the B-Pillar and connect it to the white wire on the plug...
See this quick guide below... It will be the same for the drivers side as well..

If you have a steady hand… I just used some old garage door opener switch sold core copper wire. Don’t know what the gage is. It looked about the same size. On the bottom of the plugs there is a square flush section that pops out exposing the sockets on each of the wires. I just slid the new wire in the back of the plugs and soldered the new wire to the compressed clips holding the socket to the original wire.
