As everyone else has said already, the G37 is the heavier car. Probably the reason the G felt faster, is because it's more raw and sporty than the IS. The IS is much more refined and has excellent gearing. Also, the G35 sedan is faster than a G37 sedan.

Also remember:
335i = 3.0 liter inline 6-cylinder w/ TwinPower Turbo - 300 horsepower
IS350 = 3.5 liter V6 non-turbo good - 306 horsepower
G37 = A 3.7 liter V6 with variable valve timing, good for 328 horsepower

And 335i and IS350 are still close
G37 is much slower

Some reasons the G37 might have felt faster

a) dealerships don't always put premium fuel in the cars - most Lexus buyers don't care about 0-60 times

b) If you drove a demo car, the ECU might have "learned" to be more fuel efficient (many people have claimed a significant difference after an ECU reset)

c) If the ECT PWR mode wasn't turned on, the car might "feel" slower as it does not hold gears as long, etc, when in either D or S, contrary to the G37's S mode which will.

Personal opinion - I've noticed increased throttle response when in ECT PWR mode. Try this - drive down any straight, flat, open road at a constant speed and throttle load. Now turn on ECT PWR - does the car start to accelerate? Turn it back off - Does speed remain constant/drop? It does for me, whether I am fulfilling my own bias or not.

Just to clarify- ECT-Power slows the car down in a drag race (ie starting in 1st gear, flooring it till the race is over).

ECT-Power doesn't, ever, actually add any power either.

However, in part-throttle or on/off throttle driving in gears 2-6, it can offer some transmission behavior advantages over normal mode.

For exactly what it does, see here:

No, I'm referring to the g37s coupe

The g37 sedan is even slower than the g37 coupe due to an even higher curb weight.

G37 coupe curb weight: 3662 lbs
G37 sedan curb weight: 3703 lbs

The data I provided in my previous post from Road and Track were for the g37 coupe.

The g37 sedan will ostensibly be slower, perhaps by .05 second - .1 second.

After owning both cars I can say without a doubt that the is350 is by FAR faster.

ok ok...so I had a g35 with the 306hp BUT....it didnt weigh near as much as the g37.

ALSO...I think the is350 has slightly higher torque at a lower rpm.

the fastest 1/4 I EVER had with the g35 was a 13.65 at 98mph (muffler delete and bully dog programmer) compared to 13.29 at 105mph. It isnt difficult to tell even with the butt dyno.

I love the fact that the G37coup is a two door and the IS is 4 door (a more practicle car) that is still faster than the G37. While where on the topic of launching can any one post how to launch with the trac completly off. I know there is a sequence but I cant seem to get it right.

look up the peddle dance

with the car off....put the parking brake on

start the car, then quickly press the brake pedal 3 times HOLDING ON THE THIRD
then release and press the parking brake 3 times leaving it down on the third
then go back to pressing the brake pedal 3 times and holding

repeat this process till the traction light comes on and stays on

voila'

sure the is350 is technically faster than the G37 however both cars will feel very similar unless you are a expert in the 1/4 mile ... the reason the G37 will seem faster is because of the aggressive exhaust note it emits when you punch it. However our is350's tend to be much quieter which may confuse the driver...

I have owned both cars. Based on feel alone the is350 feels faster off the line, however the g37s pulls harder in the top end. In the end neither one will smoke the other. The difference is negligible.

Since IS350 is a sedan, therefore let's stick to comparing this with G35/ G37 sedan. To me after driving both cars, it's no doubt G is faster then IS350 also you can feel the power. However put all together i like IS350 better.
