Default Problems: car wouldn't unlock and now it wont start.

Hey guys,

My car gets stored over the winter, but gets started every two weeks to keep fluids circulated.

Today I went to go start the car for its usual warm-up but the doors wouldn't unlock, I figured the key fob battery had died so I went to get my second fob and that wouldn't unlock the doors either. So I figured the car battery must of died.

I poped off the plastic piece and opened the door manually, but the battery is still working fine, tail lights work, interior lights work and I get the warning message "key not detected."

Is it possible both my key battery's died in the last two weeks? Or is their another issue I need to look for?

Thanks

Did you hold the fob next to the start button and try to start it?

2 Weeks without running is a long time.
Before I panic, I'd charge the battery first and try again.

If you're going to store the car I'd get a Deltran battery tender. Cost ~#$75 and it will keep the battery up to charge w/out overcharging

I would say use a multi-meter to check the the battery voltage. before buying a battery.

Ive had that same problem where both the batteries would read low battery so I just changed both bat and I have an extra battery in the car just in case.

bad battery probably, so check it with a multimeter and if it is indeed bad, take it into lexus and they will give you a new one under warranty.

Disconnect battery; attach volt/multi-meter to battery post (Red to red, black to black). Keep connected for 15 to 20 seconds. If the voltage reads less then 9.6 volts, its time for a new battery.

go to radioshack and swap out the fob battery and try again. its a cheap 5 dollar shot that may work. i doubt the battery in the car is dead.
