Default Inside/outside air switch

Hi people,

I see you are all Lexus enthousiast modding your cars... so maybe I am posting my dumb question in the completely wrong forum.

Here is my problem: when the air control is not on "automatic", the airco is off and the tempurature(*) is relatively high then the car switches to inside air automatically when I start it. It never switches back to outside air. It usually takes a while before I start feeling uncomfortable and notice that it happened. I want it to stay exactly the way I left it when I parked it. Its automatic mode is switched off after all!

Is this "by design", a bug, or a technical problem with my car ?

Thanks
Tom

(*) not figured out yet whether it is outside or inside temp that influences the behaviour

Mine does the same thing. My older RX also did this. Lexus does not seem to understand that if we wanted automatic, we'd push "Auto". I feel that when I set the car to manual, I want ALL the a/c settings to remain the way I set them. I just took mine in to get the C-BEST setting changed to set the air control to independant, stop the steering wheel from retracting, and turn off the "foot-air leak" (so my feet will be warm in the winter). Hopefully the change to the air control will stop the automatic changeover of the damper when in manual.

You got me googling for C-BEST... that looks promising. Only, I could not find a definite up-to-date listing of C-BEST options for the IS250. I did find some older listings (2001, 2003), and not specifically for the IS.
I want to see the face of the garage people when I tell them to switch this and that option such and so. This is a small garage somewhere in Flanders. (I can here you think "Where??" Belgium! "Where??" Europe!! )

I have a 2008 IS250 and this is the full list of customizable options. Most dealers have the short list called Personalization Settings. My dealer hadn't heard of some of these, especially "foot-air leak", but gladly made the changes when I gave him a copy. Hope this helps.

Does anyone know if the personalization setting "Air Inlet Mode" adjusts the behavior when the AC isn't turned on?

It drives me crazy that the Air Inlet Mode switches to "recirculation" every time I start my car. All the cars I had in the past would not even let recirculation remain on for more than a few minutes because eventually recirculation starts making you feel sick.

This setting sounds perfect to fix my issue however it says "In case of turning the A/C On...." so it sounds like this feature only adjusts the behavior when using the AC. I suspect it will change the behavior when the AC is off also because that seems to make sense but who knows. Sicne my dealer plans to charge me to change this setting I want to make sure it will work before paying them.

Does anyone have this setting set to "Manual"?
If so does the recirculation mode remain at the current setting regardless of whether the AC is on or off?

My Model/Year is IS250/2008.

I had the Foot Air Leak and Steering Wheel Retract turned off. Didn't like cold feet in the winter and saw no reason for the wheel to move since I'm not a fat dude. I also had the A/C Inlet set to manual and that does keep the recirc/outside setting from moving on its own. I hated it when it went to outside air at times when there were clouds of salt dust in the winter here. It does mean that you have to switch it to recirc say in the summer to get max A/C, but I prefer the control over convenience.

Thanks oseidler I had the modification done ($60) and it works perfect now. The control options is worded weird because it says it adjusts the behavior when the AC is in use but even with AC off it still adjusts how recirculate button behaves. Now the "Air Inlet Mode" button stays set to my last selection.

Glad it worked. Most dealers only have the "short" list of options - the Personalization List. I took in the full list with my changes high-lighted and they had never heard of some of the options, especially the Foot Air Leak. In fact they wanted to keep my list which I did give them. It actually gives a little more info on each setting.
