im a smoker as well but i hate how the car gets super ashy especially in the back seat after a few days. i do smoke with the window slightly opened but i been using the ashtray lately to prevent that. i might get the VAIS ipod adapter thing and place it in there instead!

(Japan 06-10 part number is 55441-53060 while 2011+ seems to have the 55441-53070, both seem to be loaded in the USA system, not sure on the differences between 55441-53060 and 55441-53070).

I know this is somewhat old, however 55441-53070 is the part number for the box without ash tray. It was added to the North American catalog for 2011, and it seems to be loaded here now as well, so you should be able to order it from your local Lexus dealer.
(Japan 06-10 part number is 55441-53060 while 2011+ seems to have the 55441-53070, both seem to be loaded in the USA system, not sure on the differences between 55441-53060 and 55441-53070).

from the way you wrote this, it does not sound like you know that the whole piece that the metal piece connects to is removable. I am not near my car, but the whole little ash tray box comes out, leaving a much bigger area.

That box looks pretty cool. Not sure if I want to spend $80 on it though. I never even open the little door. I hate having anything stored in my car.
I can't beleive people would smoke in their car. To each their own though. Can you write things on the inside of your windows from the nicotine?

How about get this? 
The standard instrument panel box depth can be adjusted by a partition plate that comes with no leather, and can accommodate two to the middle and sunglasses set. - Using gogle translate.
