you need a special tool/machine, which I assume you don't have. dealerships and some locksmiths have it.
Dealership will charge ~$55 to get er done. unless they try to jack you for a whole hour then its $120
and if its a "used" key that was for a different car don't be surprised if they tell you it can't be done... but don't believe them... it can be done.

is300??? i don't belive they have the same key as the IS250 smart keyfob... in that case... i don't believe that can be done. the frequencies don't match... i'm sorry i assumed you were using another ISx50 key 2nd gen... in that case... you can't match a key that wasnt made for the car with the earlier generation...

A lexus tech posted how to do it a while back, IIRC it is a lot more involved than programming a new key (it essentially involves resetting all keys on the car then reprogramming them but you can probably search for the post if you want more specifics) but it can be done.

ok. my IS250 smartkey (which i earlier refered to as "keyless entry remote") is currently working. i work at a toyota dealership. the 2nd smartkey i would like to program was from a used car we had on the lot. i guess it was lost at one point b/c one of the service tech's gave me this extra smartkey. he told me that i would have to take it to the lexus dealership to have it programmed. the key was tagged to go to a 2006 IS350. the part #'s are the same. i was just hoping there was a way to program this extra remote without paying the $120

I also just called the Lexus dealer, and even the service advisor there was not too helpful...he said they have done some before, and sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't work, but he couldn't tell me the procedure. TIS has no info on this as well....

Okay, since it is the same part/smart key.
I'm about 99% sure it CAN be done, the 1% being that it came from a different car, and I don't have experience with the IS300/IS250 bit.
I had a key from another CL member that was programmed to his '06 IS350, and I successfully reprogrammed it to my '06 IS350. I took it to a two dealerships which discouraged me, insisting it can not be done. Here's the thing, it's a toss up whether or not it will "take" being that it was programmed before, from what I've heard some people have done it no problem, but it's more likely it will not "add". That's probably why most places say it can't be done.
If it doesn't "take" the addition then the whole system needs to be reset. They would clear all the keys programming, then program each key. This is where they will tell you it will cost ~$270, although it would be cheaper to buy a "virgin" key at sewell and get that programmed. This would be a situation much like if someone stole your key and you wanted to be sure no one had access to your car. This is what I needed to do, the dealership said they would do it if I paid them that, after they unsucessfully tried to add the key. Instead, I took it to a locksmith, he unsuccessfully tried to add the key, then he just reset the system as described. Took 30 minutes, and now I have a spare key again, to replace the one my dog ate. Oh, and he only charged me $80.
kimme... check the fcc id on the back, i suppose if it's a match/same part then you are good to go.
quick123 and kimme... you can't do it yourself with out that tool/machine i spoke of... fyi... when watching the guy do it the tool was a universal car remote tool, so it's not some Lexus or Toyota only tool, so if you call around to some locksmiths who also do cars, ask if their manual for it has instructions for the IS.
