Default 255/40ZR18 XL will these tires fit?

Looking to purchase 255/40ZR18 XL Hankook Ventus V12 evo K110. when i look online, i get the following warning

TIRE LOAD WARNING:
"The following tire you have selected has a higher load rating than the vehicle's Original Equipment (O.E.) tires. This typically results in increased ride harshness, which some customers may find undesirable. In order to maintain the handling capabilities originally designed into your vehicle, it should always be equipped with equivalent tires at all wheel positions. Click "OK" if you have read this warning and have selected tires that
will match the ones on your vehicle or click "Cancel" to change the
quantity of these tires in your cart."

Are the tires i selected not the correct size for my rears?

XL stands for extra load & means it has extra thick sidewalls so you can put more air in the tire to support more weight. Makes the ride stiffer so you can't give me XL tires for a IS

All-wheel or rear-wheel drive?

Since you are asking about 255s I assume you have a RWD IS. Any 255/40/18 will fit in the back (225s on the front). The difference you are being warned about is the difference in its load range. On the rear (255s) the extra load rated tires will not make that much of a difference in ride quality. Now the front is a different story. The front stock IS wheels are prone to road hazard damage (Pot holes). I had both front wheel crack and both front tires get several sidewall bubbles. After replacing the wheels with aftermarket (18s) and changing the tires I've come to the conclusion that the front tire choice is very important. I feel that the front tires have allot to do with damaging the wheels. Specifically how much the tire can absorb as far as impact from road hazards’. I believe the sidewall design is the difference. I've hit the exact same type of potholes with the different wheels and tires and no damage to the wheels and tires. I have the BFG SS all-seasons. What I think is the most important aspect to be aware of is how well the particular tire resists impact bubble damage. I got lucky with the BFG but will make sure I research how well any other future tire holds up to bubbles. Example, I'm looking at Continental as my next tire. It turns out there is a review on Tirerack of an owner of these tires on an IS that has had several bubbles very shortly after installing. This sort of validates my concerns and leads me to choosing a different tire.

Your best bet would be to get feedback from someone who has owned those tires. Someone from either a site like this or a site like Tirerack.

XL tires are less prone to "Impact Breaks" because of the thicker sidewalls. But that force is transfered to the wheel & can bend it. "Bubbles" come from a Impact Break that rips the inner liner that contains the air & lets the air leak thru to the outer ply of rubber. Brand of tire makes little difference in Impact Break resistance all you can do is increase sidewall height (higher profile) or avoid pothole etc.

Sorry but the brand and/or design makes a night and day difference in whether there will be an impact break in the sidewall! The trick is finding a tire that will absorb the impact without creating a bubble and not damaging the wheel. The one thing I can testify to is; a soft sidewall is prone to impact breaks and can damage the wheels.
