Default Another lowbeam /highbeam/fog thread

Okay I have searched and searched and searched. I got so much information I think I may have confused myself. Which need just bulbs and which need the kit with the ballast. I think it also depends if its stock HID or not. Mine is not stock HID, atleast i don't thinks so.

Please help I am losing it?

If you don't have stock HID, you need to get HID kit(ballast + bulb + wiring) for your lows if you want. If it's 07+ chances are it has stock HIDs. If you need HID though, you can get them from the vendors on the forum. Lows if not HID are H11. If they are HIDs, D4s.

High beam is 9005.

Fogs are 9006.

Right now in your car it is just bulb. You will need ballast and wiring if you want to go HID.

http://hidextra.com/
You can get the kits from here, I dunno, wouldn't go HID for high beam though just burn the bulb quickly if you don't have DRL's disabled and would be hella dbag at night when you highbeam people. Also wouldn't really see the true output because it wouldn't be on long enough to warm up.

Only low-beams are HIDs. And only if you have HIDs (which are not standard on any year 2IS; optional only)

I figured they were practically "standard" because even though they were an option, nearly every 07+ car had them.

So which fog bulb, (9006) will match a factory HID head light?
I'm looking for something that has a "less yellow" appearance.

You're going to have to get an HID conversion kit to really match. I tried Silverstar Ultras and they were an improvement, but still noticeably more yellow than the HIDs.

Where can I get a kit, and how much? The dim factory fogs make it look like a 60's muscle car.

Check the vendor forums. I think HIDExtra sells a decent kit for $60 or so.

Here are links to a couple of lighting threads I've made to give you some ideas:

Nearly every one in your area perhaps, because your region might tend to get them optioned that way.

But they are not, and have never been, a standard feature on the 2IS.

There's more than a few threads on here with people who don't have factory HIDs in 07+ cars and are annoyed because they thought they were standard.

The only thing that changed on 07+ cars was those had the OPTION to get them without the sport or lux package... in 06 they only came in those packages, 07+ you could get them either in those packages or as a stand-alone option.

To the OP- Yes you can just swap bulbs for fogs or high beams if you want to. They won't look like HIDs though so if your lows are HIDs they still won't match "perfectly"

Thanks for the explanation Kurtz.

OP, 5000k from HIDExtra should match up well with stock, 4300k. You could possibly change both to like, 5000k or even 6000k.

One thing that I was confused with and I haven't seen mentioned anywhere is that the OEM HID/Bi-Xenon lows have some high-beam function.

For example I was warned that if I installed LED DRL's i would lose high beam function... I installed them and discovered that though it's not quite as good, there's still considerable high beam function given by the OEM Bi-xenons. don't know if this function is specific to bi-xenon or if HIDs would also give the same.

If you have your 9005 highbeam too, it is much brighter than just 9006 highbeam. Both in conjunction is best.
