Question What's the reason behind parting out?

Just out of curiosity... why do so many people "part out"?

Do after-market parts not add much to resell value, so you just part out to make more cash? Or are people leasing, customizing, and then going back to stock to return it to Lexus?

Sorry for a somewhat dumb question, but it's puzzled me lately.

People customize and then get over it and want to move on. I plan on keeping my car for a long time.

People part out to make cash because mods to a car add absolutely no value to a car other than rims. Parting out is smarter too, even though it may be a pain in the booty.

theres few people who modify cars based on the number of people who drive cars. selling a modified car is very hard because you build a car to your liking and not everyone elses so its harder to find a buyer to buy your car. also when selling a modified car, most people do not really care what parts are on the car, making the aftermarket parts pretty much worthless (to some people). Its much easier to part out the car and sell the car stock because you open yourself up to a wide range of people who would be interested.

modding is to one's personal taste. its hard to sell a modified car as it might not be to another's liking. parting out just gives them the cash they need for other mods or if they really need the cash relatively fast. theres a good market for secondary aftermarket goods, and for those who cant afford to pay full price for some of these items, they can get them for cheaper. win- win for both parties.

^This. In most cases modifications will actually decrease the value of your car. Reverting it back to stock might give you a better price/trade in.

Yes. People tend to think if this guy is into modding cars he probably drove it really hard, maybe even got into a few accidents he isn't telling me about, etc. Better resale value when stock.
