new wheels but rubbing
So I got my new wheels: EXE Evolve
19" fronts & 20" rears
I know it will kill resale value of the wheels, but the tires on the 20 for the front were way too skimpy for me so I opted for 19s.
The specs on the rear are 20x10 +40
I'm running Hankook Ventu V12 275 in the rear and rubbing like crazy.
My drop is S-techs, nothing too crazy, so I thought this set up would be OK.
At first I couldn't even drive the car it was rubbing so bad. I mean the fender was actually catching on the sidewall and getting stuck.
I had the rear fenders rolled at Evasive Motorsports. They did a good job, but I don't think they rolled enough of the fender because it was still rubbing over very mild bumps. In other words, if you look at the wheel, the rolling started at 10'clock and ended at 2 o'clock.
Since this was at the end of friday and I live far away from Evasive, I ended up taking out my dremel and cutting some of the fender back (where the roll stopped at 2 o'clock), and now it's better, but I can still imagine that it will rub with more than 2 people in the car over small bumps as it will slightly rub going over a speed bump.
Anyway, a guy had a similar set up to mine but was running Falkens. Apparently the sidewall is less boxy than the Hankooks. He claimed to not have an issue with rubbing in the rear.
So just a heads up, the tire mfg. will make a dramatic difference even if the specs are the same.... I'm still trying to figure out how much more fender I should cut to make it more drivable.
Any one have pics of how aggressive they were in cutting the fenders? I think I sort of split it down the middle, leaving half of the fender lip, maybe a bit less. I didn't want to completely shave it off but I might have to.
I guess my other options are:
-coils so I can adjust the dampening/height
-camber kit??
- narrower tires? stretch a 255?
