I dunno about you guys, but every time I priced out a new 335i with options it came out closer to an IS-F than what I paid for my IS350... so it's kind of a silly comparison.

(base prices aren't THAT different, but optioning on a BMW requires vaseline)

I think it honestly just comes down to "What do you feel like owning....a BMW or a Lexus?" There are so many different variables when you are comparing not only "speed", but everything else on these vehicles that make them worth owning, and driving.

I have both cars. I have a 350 and love it. My wife drives the 335i and she loves it too. The Lexus is fast, no doubt about that, but the 335i feels a tad bit more powerful when I drive it.....a tad bit lol. Nah, but really, you can definately feel the torque advantage on the BMW.

There's only really a couple things that I like more about our 335i than the 350....it's a coupe, and it's a manual transmission. The Lexus is the first sedan I've ever owned, but I didn't really have a choice becasue I really wanted it, and that's all it came in at the time (now the 350C closest thing to a coupe...I guess). But I think the 350 is the best looking sedan out there right now! So no matter what you decide to get, I'll think either one is awesome

Ok guys, we are all now playing catch-up with the 2010 S4 if we are talking about numbers. That thing is a beeeeast! The 2011 335i will have like 330 HP, so this discussion will, unfortunately, be moot in a few months. We can enjoy our time on top for now though

I agreed. 335 is overpriced, it adds up to a lot $$$ if you add all options from 350. 335 doesn't even come with garage opener on base model. Go German and emptied your wallet.

i think all these 335i threads are just populated by mostly idiots...

heres why: it always comes up 'with just a few bolt-on's'... well guess what then, its no longer stock for stock, and 'with just a few bolt-on's' can apply to ANY CAR~... or 'all it takes is money'...

you know i could get a used american rwd car $4k/goto jegs and get a new v8 $5k/tremec for a trans 4k/goto hotchkis or richmond for suspension $15k... so for what... under 30k easy i could keep up with turbo porshes in the straights and hang with bmw in the twisties...

when ppl start saying, 'with just a few modifications'... it just blows my mind...

all the 335i need is the jb3 chip and a gain for like 50-70 hp and we get that from a stupid 6g supercharged >.<

You are correct stock for stock is one thing and a modded car shouldn't be compared to stock. I think a lot of people including myself raise the point that the 335i is very easy to mod compared to the IS350. I rather leave the IS350 stock than spend $6K for 50-70hp or just get a 335i in the first place.

From a dig, there are far too many youtube.com video's of the IS350 winning. Probably because of the disgusting 1st gear we have, where we jump out from the start and never look back.

From a roll, even a slow roll that drops down to 2nd gear, the IS is just about right there, maybe a 1/2 car length behind... and thats up to 100mph plus. Who drives 100mph plus frequently? Really... ?

STOCK vs. STOCK

The IS will win from a dig. Plus +
The IS is a much better looking car outside and in. Plus +
The IS is a much more reliable car. Plus +
vs.
The IS will loose by a 1/2 car length (6-7 feet) from a roll during illegal street racing which will cost you your license. Negative -

Who really wins... I mean really?

Superior "German sport handeling" ? My commute is straighter than an arrow. And so are 95% of the roads I drive on during a daily basis.
+1, well said.

Why don't you test drive them both and see which one you like. Ask to have them for a couple of days each. Take it on your commute, take it on some roads that you drive on for other reasons.

I've heard great things about the IS, but your personal preference may be different. You may find the IS's ride is too harsh when you drive it to work. You may find that the BMW both lets you drive in a relaxed way but also is exciting when you feel like driving fast. You may find that the IS is supremely quiet.

There's a difference between the 335i and the new 335is.

The 2011 335i will still have 300 HP. It will no longer be twin turbo, however. It will be a twin scroll single turbocharged engine.

The newly created 2011 335iS will be a twin turbocharged inline 6 putting out 322 HP.

Here's the problem with the 335iS. Sure, it's an tiny bit faster than a 335i. Look at its atrociously large base MSRP, I think many of you might have a hard time believing this -

2011 335iS base MSRP = $49,650

The convertible is even worse

2011 335iS convertible base MSRP = $58,200

Wait, what? Nearly $50,000 base for an entry level luxury sports sedan?

For Christ's sake the 400HP+ M3 Sedan starts at just $5,000 more than the coupe.

The point is, I don't see the 335iS being a strong seller, as it makes virtually no sense whatsoever. Any financially savvy buyer is going to drop the extra $5,000 for an extra 100 horses (and more) for the M3 over the 335iS.

In all honesty, if I ever see a 335iS on the road, first I'm going to laugh at them. Then I'm going to laugh some more. Finally, once I stop laughing, I'm going to ask them why they didn't think 100 extra horsepower along with the M badge and superior track performance wasn't worth it (with the M3) for a measly extra $5,000.
