New Guy w/ Mustang, in Search of IS250
Whats up guys, just wanted to say Hi...I've had my 97 Mustang GT Vert for about 6 years now...pretty much taken apart everything inside and out.
When I got it:
How it looks now:
I just graduated from Lehigh University, and landed a full time job...so now I'm in search of a nice daily driver...and I'm taking a serious look at some 07 is250s in my area. I was a little unsure that I wanted one, until I found this forum...my god are there some sick cars on here. Wish me luck with my search!
I'm in Glen Ridge, NJ...if anyone has any leads on a White on Black w/ Nav in the area, let me know.

The manual transmission in the IS250 is derived from a toyota tacoma truck and is pretty bad.
A used 2007 IS350 would not cost much more than a used 2007 IS250.
An IS250 will be a lot slower than your 1997 mustang GT (in stock form), whereas an IS350 will be a lot faster.
You have to choose between unrefined manual transmission and 300+ horsepower with automatic transmission.
It's not even an issue about power, it's mostly an issue about the IS250 manual transmission being not so good.
If you're looking for an automatic to begin with, then the choice should clearly be an IS350. It's not a race car but it has more than enough power to satisfy the "luxury sports car" moniker.
Sick mustang by the way.

i wish someone had told me this before i bought my IS, but if you enjoyed taking every single part off your car and replacing it with aftermarket stuff, the IS is not the car for you, there isn't much aftermarket, and theres alot of stuff we cannot touch. really the only performance stuff is intake and exhaust. everything else is asthetics
i know u want a daily driver, but just wanted to make sure you knew because that is the only downer about the 2is, modability,
otherwise the 2is is a sick car, i love mine. just wish it had more power =\ but its plenty for daily, GL with your decision.
i agree just get a used 350, if you drive it soft you can get 21 mpg

The more I read the more I hear you guys telling people to go with 350s...I definitely like going fast, but honestly I'm not looking for a DD thats extremely fast. I want a car with good gas mileage, but still has luxury and looks sporty. But the idea of 200hp in a 3400lb car is pretty weak sounding.
I still have some research to do, and need to go on some more test drives. I'm going with an auto, because my commute to work makes me want to kill myself driving stick in my mustang haha
As for mod-ability...its not really a big deal for me (im keeping my stang as a toy). The right stance, and a nice set of wheels makes or breaks a car. The body lines are amazing on the ISx models, and I wouldn't want to change much. I'm not going to be slamming it, as comfortable driveability is important for me in whatever I get for a DD, but I will definitely lower it and invest in some wheels.
I'm addicted to this guys 2IS (I'm sure he won't mind me posting a pic, considering I'm in love with his car haha) Its the definition of clean and simple:

This is a copy paste from another thread, but I believe the middle one is the same car you are referring to. Indeed it looks pretty sick:
Gas mileage - the IS350 gets nearly identical gas mileage to the IS250.
Honestly, the issue here isn't that you need 300 horsepower in a daily driver. The issue is, as you suggested, the performance in the IS250 is simply not sufficient for a luxury car, period.
Even if you plan on driving the IS350 around in a "grandma-like" fashion, I would still suggest the IS350.
You're going with auto, everything you say suggests you should get the IS350.
Get the IS350, hands down. Once you said you're fine with auto and (assuming) you don't need AWD, the IS350 is the correct choice to go if you're buying used no exception.

Please get the IS350. I can't bear to watch another person think, initially, that the IS250 will be more than enough for him only to be disappointed in a few months when he realizes what he passed up with the IS350.
Look around, there are countless stories like this. IS250 owners wishing they got the IS350. Don't be one of these people!

IS350 is 50% more power for 10% worse mileage. (and about 10% more cost, even when new)
That's a no-brainer if you care about power at all
Your first mod without question should be the F-sport sways by the way, best reasonably cheap mod out there that makes a really noticeable and obvious improvement in the cars behavior.

The IS350 is 50% more power and more aggressive gearing, which is why it behaves more like a 350 HP car with taller gears for down-low performance (0-~100 MPH), as meowcat has suggested in the past.

My neighbour has the exact same car(Mustang GT) and color combination as yours. I sat in it before and drove it too. Its a typical American car, powerful but lousy handling.
I got an 2008 is250RWD a few months ago. After reading the forums, I was so disappointed in realizing you couldn't mod the 250 at all. I regretted not doing research before buying my car and I hope you dont make the same mistake as me. For a few more thousand, u get 100hp increase. :/
