Only if they botch up the install on the replacement! He probably fixes windshields but doesn't replace them. Trying to sell everyone on repairs rather than replacement.

I've read bad things about Safelite on this forum, in particular that they frequently leak and make noise after being installed. I'm still not sure what I want to do about the crack in my windshield, but if anyone else is considering repairing theirs, do not buy the kits at Pepboys and instead please pay someone as the windshield repair kits are not only worthless, they actually cause more harm than good.

Just came back from Lexus dealership. They told me it would cost about 1.3-1.4k to replace it. The service advisor also told me the cracks probably started from a small chip. I have a few rock chips on my windshield as I drive up to SF almost every 2 week. She told me to come back again on Monday to speak to the service manager.

I cancelled my appointment with Safelite today, I am probably gonna use comprehensive to pay for the OEM windshield from Lexus and get it off my deductible. Still waiting for my insurance agent to call me and see what he can do for me...

I wonder if this is cover under warranty. Probably a defective Windshield cause I don't see a small rock chip will make such a huge dangerous crack like that.

I dont think windshield is covered under warranty. It's a Certified Pre-Owned car. I just got it from my dealership like 2 and a half months ago.

Default Windshield replacement

My 2007 IS 250 windshield developed similar big crack. Safelight gave me an estimate but when it came time to install, they said no after market moldings are available and they will have to order them from Lexus for $167. The total comes to about $400. Any other source for moldings?

I wonder what the dealer's reaction will be when they hear that. Hehe...

The rock chip starts small but it spreads due to road vibrations and change in temperature. If you turn on heater to defog your windshield will cause it to expand. Best way to deal with it is to have it repaired ASAP.

I had windshield cracks that spread within a day.

Just wondering what moldings your talking about. Is it the two plastic pieces on the left and right side of the windshield? I had my windshield replaced and those were broken in the process.
