Default Help. Cracked windshield

I was washing my car when this happened. Is there a hotline to call those people with the truck/van to come and fix this?

If you say repair, then no. You can't repair a crack/chip that is larger than a square or two inch in diameter.

In California, most glass repair will refuse work on the driver's side of the windshield. Probably CA law. I asked 2 different glass companies, and both said the same thing.

Sorry to say that you'll have to do a replacement... Check with your auto insurance, most will cover it without deductible. Mine gives me a once-a-year of chip repair for free or $80 bucks to replace windshield that can't be repaired.

Crack is too big, companies will not fix that. Best bet is to give your insurance a call to see if the will cover it. New OEM windshield from dealer is around $600. Good luck.

calling the insurance for a replacement is pointless...most companies will throw the deductible in there for replacement. If it is repairable, which in your case its not, insurance will reimburse or pay around 40-60 dollars.

safelite will fix and they bill your insurance and waive your deductible.

Is there a difference between the OEM windshield from Lexus and the one I will get from safelite?

No idea. I'm guessing hot temperature + cold water = bad day.

i'm betting that the glass was super hot and when he put cold water on it when washing, it caused it to crack?

A few months ago I got a small crack, probably less than the size of a finger print. I got it sealed. The repair man told me that the original windshield is better than the replacement because of the seal around the windshield. He said after a few year after the replacement , the seal around will leak and cause wind sound inside the cabin. Can anyone confirm if this is true or myth? thx (he got a point though)

I can't say this happens with aftermarket, but it can with OEM. I had a problem with the window seal pealing (no sound), but I had it repaired. After the repair i heard a noticeable whistle. I took it back to the dealer and not sure what they did, but it went away.

My point is that you can get wind noise from an improperly installed windshield OEM or not.

Hope this helps
