I am in the process of purchasing a 2006 IS 250 with ~66,000 miles, and this is my first Lexus purchase. However, before I commit to the purchase and sign the dotted line I am having the car taken to a third-party pre-buy inspection center of my choice, whom specialize in Japanese made cars. I will also have the chance to be with the mechanic while the inspection is going on, so there will be plenty of time for questions.
Aside from the obvious cosmetic wear, I was wondering if anyone would be able to supply me with a list of things that I can give to the inspection mechanic to specifically look at that may be wear related to specific problems the IS line can introduce as they start to age.
Aside from general vehicle wear, I am going to see if he can verify what TSIB's have been completed; more specifically the brake dust SB.
Is there anything else I should specifically bring to his attention?
From standing outside of the car, it seems there is a somewhat clanky engine cooling fan, but I have heard this sound is actually as a result of the direct injection of the IS engines - is this true? It wasn't loud by any means, but it is something I took notice to; especially since I am used to fuel injection which is practically non-existent noise.
Thank you for the help.

one thing that i failed to do was to turn off the radio, roll up the windows and drive the car for a minute or 2. listen for any cabin noise. i discovered the noise after i purchased the car. the noise was some cracking noise coming from the center console. i heard other people hear it in the back seat. I guess its random, but keep an ear out for that!
lucky for me, my car is still under warranty, so the dealership took care of it for me. good luck and good choice selecting an IS =)
