will the is line ever be smooth?
i have a camry xle. and also have goten a es350 as a loaner car. i love the smooth ride of those cars. do you think the is will ever have a smooth ride like these cars?
P.S. the is has a bumpy ride. i hear a lot of people say how smooth it is (not me) and how smooth compared to a bmw. is the bmw ride even bumpier than an is?

The IS has a tighter suspension. I don't know if i'd call it bumpy, but the car is a better handling vehicle, tighter handling and fairly responsive.
I have a '10 ES350, a '10 IS250AWD, and an '09 Boxster. All 3 are great cars, and 3 totally different cars. When I just want a nice smooth comfortable ride I take the ES. When i want the comfort and a tighter ride I take the IS. When I want pure unadulterated fun and performance I take the Boxster.
today I'm in the Boxster.

The ES and Camry are designed for comfort and absorbing bumps well..The IS looks and feels sportier
..
If you think the IS is bumpy then you will definitely not like the 3 series...If you want sportier plus comfort you should look into the GS..probably a good mix of sport and comfort..

Well the IS250's suspension is the smoothest ride out of the cars I own.
I've driven Corolla, Sentra, and Civic so it's not fair comparison.
Also in terms of ride quality, Lexus has been alot more quiet. My sis-in-law also has a Camry XLE and her interior rattles and it's noisy. I guess that's the sound absorbing visor doing it's thing in the IS.

I hope not--wasn't that the point of the original IS? Create 2 entry level lux cars, one cushy and one sporty? Instead of one that tries to be both?

The 18" wheels and 40 series tires make the IS ride a little harsh. I switched to the OEM 17" wheels and 45 series tires and it smoothed the ride out quite a bit. It won't be as smooth as the ES - it's not designed to be.
The BMWs ride smoother than the comparable Lexus eg IS vs 3 series, GS vs 5 series (except the M/Sport cars).

As smooth as an ES? No, and I sure as hell hope it won't ever be that smooth. That's not the purpose of the IS line.
Many people with the Lexus IS end up making the ride even firmer and bumpier by adding the F sport rear sway bars.
Less smooth ride, but significantly enhanced cornering ability.
