Converting a non-nav IS250 to a nav one :)
Hi everyone,
I have a non-navi 2006 IS250 and am pretty happy with it except that I want to get have a backup camera in it. I have few different options in mind that would work but top two are:
1) Get a regular backup cam off of ebay and connect it to something like Garmin 5000. Then hide all the wires, shouldn't be too hard and is very inexpensive.
2) I found a wrecked copy of my car. All the details are in place, I think I can get all the navi parts at a reasonable price and then sell whatever I don't need to offset the price.
The #2 interests me a lot but I feel like I would be getting myself into troubles beyond my imagination. It sounds and looks like a plug and play but is it really?
Here are my questions:
1) Besides the dash nav unit and the nav disk in the trunk, what other parts would I need?
2) Is there more rewiring than navunit-to-navdisk and navunit-to-camera?
3) I don't have the stock IS backup camera and don't want it, if I get one off of ebay and NTSC analog output, would that work for the Lexus navunit?
Should I even be looking into this? Any opinion is highly appreciated!
Thanks everyone for your time to read and / or to responsd!
P.S. I apologize if this has already been asked and I am duplicating, I couldn't find anything similar.

well if your going for the stock look definetly number two. but if you dont mind an obvious aftermarket look you can get a custom fabricated dash kit. i think a few guys have done single dins with aftermarket dins inside.

Thanks for the answers guys but the flyaudio is around $2k. I can get all the stock parts for less than a grand.
Or am I wrong on the flyaudio price?
As for aftermarket, I don't mind the aftermarket look but those things are usually built in somewhere at the bottom and it's not convenient to use...

I would offer a 3rd option if its really the backup camera that is desired. I know the Highlanders have a screen as part of the rear view mirror. I'm not sure but I think that would certainly give you the OEM look you want. Either way good luck and please keep us posted with your progress.
