+1 on the carbon build up. Mine got to the point where i was leaving a light and lost all power and all kinds of lights on my dash turned on. I had to pull over turn it off and turn it back on and i had power again but lights were still there.. 2 months later i honestly feel it happen every now and then .

Can anyone explain in layman's terms what's going on when this happens and why this happens only to 250s and not 350s? I haven't done a lot of research into it because I have a 350 but I'd like to know.

there's a TSIB for this. they have redesigned pistons for the 250's but too bad they are on national backorder right now. My friend, that works at lexus, was suppose to do that to my car but backordered.

May I drive to see your friend? I'll pay him under the table if he can get me in.
All the lexus dealerships here in west palm beach won't do the TSB for me because I'm out of warranty

Okay that sucks... my ODO sits at 45k and in the 20 that I put myself never had the problem... If this is to happen to me, hopefully it is 2-3 years down, so I can actually just trade the car in for a new

Do you know when the TSIB came out? I took my car to the stealership a few times while I had warranty (just expired in august ) They did a few recalls and services that I was too busy to worry about, but now I am concerned seeing all these threads and people having this issue.

I have 53k miles and I bought it with 30k. I will schedule an appt with Lexus. I hope it's covered, what's the cost to get it done if not covered?

Again, people concerned about this should search CL for the carbon build-up thread, which answers literally all of your questions and includes PDFs of the TSIB (it's pages and pages long).

As far as the cost out of warranty, I believe I saw numbers in the range of $1600-2000.

Don't know, call Bill Powers at Lexus of Palm Beach and ask him, remember, its a 6 year, i think 70,000 mile engine/powertrain warranty.

It just came out not too long ago. I was a car in the Lexus bay with the engine thrown apart for this TSIB but no pistons in stock LOL.

Any idea on the details of that TSIB? Such as TSIB number and VIN range?

I know the previous TSIB for this only calls for treating the problem.. but not FIXING it. Top engine cleaning only hides the the problem until it re-surfaces again.

If they have a REAL fix for this, it'll make alot of Lexus IS250 owners happy.

I bought mine in Late 2010, So I'm hoping my model is safe.
