The manual is cool once you get the F Sport short shifter. I have a Honda Civic with a short shifter and the throw is a lot shorter and smoother but I'm not racing! Forget resale

im trippin out~ if you guy really think a 250 manual is 'fun to drive' you guys really haven't driven anything that has actual power... a modified 5.0 5speed FOX mustang is 'fun to drive', a modified MkIII/IV manual turbo supra is 'fun to drive', a manual miata at SCCA Solo II event is 'fun to drive'... a heavy underpowered luxury car with a taco trans isn't imo 'fun to drive'...

now im not bashing on the 250's, im pretty sure its more 'fun to drive' than the auto 250 but lets not sugar coat it...

To the OP, if you get and manual, opt for upgrading to F-Sport quickshifter and clutch
Have you tried the f sport clutch? If you have is there that much of a difference from the original clutch?

I'm with you on those points. I just couldn't pull the trigger on spending 35k on a taco tranny luxury car. I spent 35k on a less equipped 350 instead. Pretty happy for the most part, still wished it was a stick shift car though.

Hi,

I think the Lexus IS 250 manual is average. When I added the Fsport short shifter, it made the clutch alittle better. Lexus should have included FSport short shifter and the clutch as stock.

I agree with you on this even though I love my 6mt I would give it an average rating.

One thing that I hate is how I can't down shift to slow the car down. If I'm in say 5th and I want to down shift to 2nd to make a right hand turn the crappy two piece flywheel can't handle it and makes noises like it's going to tear itself apart.

Then again I came from driving an Integra with a 6 puck dual diaphragm pressure plate that can handle some serious abuse.

i love mine.

Is upgrading to the f-sport clutch/shifter worth the upgrade?

Given the 350 ECUs will be expecting to be seeing/controlling a transmission that's going to be a pretty hilarious fail.

I also find that the HEAVY flywheel makes it difficult for me to get the revs quickly to where I want them .... I can heal-toe the Miata perfectly in my sleep.
I can't do heel-toe on the IS either, I do toe-toe downshifting

I own a 250MT and the only thing that pisses me of is how long the throws were untill i got the F-sport quick shifter but even still the stick it self is way to high it should be more like the 350zs or mustangs it gets annoying that goes to show it defiantly was a truck trans bc they dont make enough MT250s to make a whole now trans for them or else they wouldve made a MT trans for the 350 also

Before I got my auto is250 I almost got a manual one. After 9 years of driving stick in my eclipse I think I got tired of it and plus the girlfriend can't drive stick if anything would happen.

Good luck on your search

It's an RA62... and it's kinda crap.

Post 29 in this thread has Lance pointing out a few of its design shortcomings-

https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...-tranny-2.html

It's also the only 2IS transmission I've heard of folks needing to get replaced, and I've seen several folks post about needing such here.

(the Tacoma is the RA60, but it's virtually identical to the RA62)
