Default thinking of buying an IS help me out

I'm thinking of buying a used IS 350, i've been looking for a while and it looks like its going to be an '06 or '07 with right around 40k. As far as I can tell the only major difference between the model years is the ability to turn of the traction control. I don't really anticipate that being a big problem since i'm not going to be doing time trials or massive burnouts. The other thing is I would get another 6-12 months warranty which is nice for piece of mind. The price difference is just shy of $2000 and if those are the only two differences I'd just assume save the money and put it aside as a sort of personal warranty, I have read that the IS is a very reliable car, but fixes can get pricey. So I guess I'm just looking for some insights or info that I may have missed in my research, mainly changes between in the car between those years and any common problems I should be on the lookout for. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I plan on making a move sometime in the next week or two.

You are correct about the differences. The 07 has the sat radio roof antenna (Shark fin) and illuminated trunk/fuel door switches. What you have to be aware of is what options/packages are on both vehicles.

Thats kind of what I figured. Was just wondering if there were any major improvements that I wasn't privy to.

I've been comparing apples to apples as far as packages go, main difference between any of them is the ML sound system which I could live with out if need be.

Also if you want to get a navi, don't get the 06 models. There's several reports here about the OEM navi Touch screen stop working on the 06 models and cost 2500 to 4K to fix since they are out of warranty. I haven't read any indication that it affects the later model.

And like technology, each newer model improve the previous one. I would avoid 1st production model on any car, but that's just me.

Really? I havn't seen any reports of this, did they change the screen from 06 o 07? As far as I can tell it looks the same.

No difference at all. In fact some of the screens that failed were on newer cars like these on '07s:

The ML is a major difference (Cost much more). I special ordered mine and waited 7 weeks just for the ML and it was worth the time and money. The standard sysem is a very good system for most people but if like to crank it up and want a better sound the ML in the IS is one of the best OEM systems out there!

i have a '07 and i chose it over a '06 (price diff was 5K, australian) only cuz of the nav system and ML

i got a 07 Sport model, with ML, Nav, Alcantara seats, sensors, heated seats, sunroof
instead of a 06 Prestige model without ML, Nav, but it did have leather ventilated seats, sensors and sunroof
