Default Tint removal damage with IS?

Anyone removed tint from their IS?

I'm thinking of letting the Lexus dealer tint mine prior to picking it up. If for some reason I ever got it removed, is there a chance of it damaging defroster wires or similar?

thanks - MBTC

From what i've heard the rear windshield is usually tinted on the outside.

Say what?

Mines done on the inside, i'm sure someone who knows what they're doing could get it off without damage.

I guess I'll need to ask the salesman about that prior to arranging all this.

So if it goes on the inside I should worry about defroster wires? Even if the dealer removes it? I was hoping there was a difference between proper removal and the impatient razor approach.

Don't tint it on the outside. It will be fine on the inside, just don't have someone who does a half *** job take it off and cut through your defrosters with a razor. That's the only thing you really have to worry about.

He said they use Huper Optick style tint, if that makes any difference.

That's just the brand they use. That won't play a part in how the installer/tinter puts tint on or takes it off. It solely depends on your tinter whether or not your windows take damage. Huper Optik is some hardcore tint lol, Good stuff

Of course the brand does play a role in making it easier to take off. The longer tint remains on your windows the more it gets broken down. When they go to remove it, it will more than likely tear depending on how ****ty the tint is or not.

Just make sure the tinter knows wth he's doing lol

mine is tinted on the inside. i've seen tints on the outside (not an IS) but from what i understand it is not recommended because the films can scratch.

the only time i've seen someone remove tint, the de-installer sprayed some chemical to the tint, put a black garbage bag over the rear window, and let the car sit in broad daylight (using the heat and chemical to break down the tint? not sure)

also, are you by chance asking because the car is leased, or you just really don't want damage to your car? if it's the former, you need not worry, i don't think dealers care when you return the car. if it's the latter, you really should worry more about the installer damaging your new car during the initial tinting process (alot of past discussions here about trim pieces being damaged, search for "trim tint" or "door tint")

never head of huper. 3m seems to be the standard.

why would you need to remove the rear tint? Just dont tint more than 35% in the rear and than your fine, the cops shouldnt give you **** for it.

There's ALWAYS a chance for your rear defrosters to get damaged when removing tint. proceed with caution...

And 99% of the time, tint is installed on the inside of windows.

tint is cut on the outside and layed on on the inside for ALL windows...

as for removal: its easy, just get a razor and pick at a corner then just peal it all off... now comes the hard part, cleaning the residue from the glue... i hate doing that

That's why it's best to use a steamer so there won't be much residue

I heard some people use steam to take off tint. Is it easy to remove the two front window tint by yourself and how would you clean the residue off.
