But my current Lexus (07) and Mercedes (08) TPMS is helpful, useful and functional because it only comes on with a warning when one tire is at least 5 pounds underinflated, as expected. I have had no false warnings.

I keep a small $100 compressor and a tire gauge in my garage for adjusting tire pressure (cold) before the car is driven.
Mine is a little more sensitive 2-3 lbs, but I am beginning to think it is the TPMS's. I am ordering new ones from ebay.

Here is what my dash looks like each time.

Not really Lexus fault. In fact, all the manufacturers now have this problem because the government banned all paints that contain lead.

The older cars had better paint jobs because they contain lead.

Lexus does offer some kind of paint seal which they warranty up to 10 years to be free of chips. I think it's called Perma Plate or something. I just think it's bs from dealer.

Best way to avoid this... install a clear bra.

netsrac - Maybe the extra sensitivity is due to colder climate, something to consider (as pressure drops significantly in cold weather).

Consider running (measured cold) your tires 3 or 4 pounds over recommended pressures. It will generally improve handling and tire wear slightly. Factory recommended pressures often favor ride quality, so going slightly over is helpful and recommended for those doing a lot of sustained high speed driving.

a 'enthusiast' will take power over trans (depending on the car) as i did, many here have switched from 250 to 350 taking the hit on trade in because they are 'enthusiasts'... drive a 350, 350Z manual, G35 manual then come back and tell me if you got the right car as 'an enthusiast'...
