I believe the button on an 06 just turns off the VSC and not the TC, and it only works < 30mph and < 5k rpm. It's the same on my 07, but I can hold the button down for like 15 seconds and it shuts off both the VSC and the TC

It turns it off till 30 mph, when it promptly comes back on again.

With 07+ models it can do that, but it can ALSO be used to turn it off entirely if you hold it down for 5 seconds rather than just press it.
