I've had my IS250C for about a month. A few days ago I happened to look closer at the driver's side on the bottom of the inside of the door on the vinyl part where you put things (not sure what that area is called, but it's where you would put sunglasses etc. on the side panel of the door) there is a "nick" that I am nearly certain I did not cause (not even sure how I could cause that).
The dealer tells me it might have been caused by the seat belt hitting it (though it is so low that I don't know how that would be likely) and that it costs well over $1000 to replace the part?! They "declined" to fix/replace it. They also tell me there is a place they have people take their cars that can sand it down, retexture and re-dye it to fix it for almost $300.
Are those my only options? Any help is appreciated, as I don't want to have it get worse and would prefer to have it look new (since it was supposed to be new). I'm in Southern California (LA) area.

I can understand how you feel but after a few years of owning a vehicle, guarantee that that general area will be pretty beat up from going in and out all the time. Besides it's the driver's side, not like anyone else is going to look over there.

I'll post a pic when I get a chance. Just to clarify. This nick was not caused by anything I have done. I'm nearly certain of it, as I haven't hit it with anything sharp and contrary to what the dealership said, there is no way the seat belt would end up hitting way down on the side there. So as for "warranty" coverage, it would not be because of a defect in materials now, it would be because it was almost certainly there when I got the car in the first place. Either way, I am obviously not about to spend all that money to fix it at this point, especially as it is the driver's side way down where you don't see it.
My main question was meant to be whether anyone else has had this damage occur and what, if anything, you've done to fix it (and prevent it getting worse). Thanks!
