iPod and Bluetooth Audio

No, unfortunately skipping tracks does not work with Bluetooth Audio, as suspected. It would work plugged in to USB of course.

I'm not sure, I'm going to guess a little of both since the 2010 got USB iPod control via stereo controls as well (at least I don't think prior years had that?).
Also, I have non-Nav, non-MarkLev stereo. There is nothing about the button arrangement that's necessarily different from previous years that I'm aware of, BTA is just another "mode" of the stereo like CD 1-6, Satellite 1-3, or FM.
So there are two new modes altogether on the non-Nav, non-ML stereo at least.... BTA and IPod (USB) mode.

The bluetooth audio stream is great! No cable required. I have a Droid and it is flawless when playing music. Sounds really clear. I also stream Slacker radio through the bluetooth. Even the steering wheel controls work with both my music on my SD card and streaming over Slacker. Also, the navigation through my Droid is heard on the car's system. It will stop any music playing and give me turn by turn directions. The only problem I had is when I connect a USB cable from my Droid to the car. I get an error message when trying to play music. You can use a USB thumb drive to play music but it has to be on the root of the drive. No sub folders. This is how an iPOD works.

What you said makes sense for USB drives, which do not have the notion of playlists and probably aren't going to have the 32-64GB of music of a typical iPod.

I might be mistaken, but I'm pretty sure the iPod Touch was looking at playlists rather than physical file locations when I plugged it in (briefly) to USB. That would mean playlists are designated using iTunes and where the file is would not matter.

I had an 07 IS and just recently bought an 2010 IS and this new system is great! I can also play Youtube on my phone and the audio will play through out the cars system. Watching movies on my phone is even better. But I'm sure your phone or other bluetooth devices would have to support this feature.

Wow. This evening I went down to get in the IS for a quick grocery store trip.
The podcast I was listening to on the way to work started playing over the radio, and I realized it was not in my pocket (actually about 35 feet away, up one story and through multiple walls as I was in the garage).
So as slowly approached the apartment exit, I wanted to see how far the BT would reach. Impressively far! But it was definately breaking up and cutting in and out at around 60-70 feet (but again through floor and walls, and I had already closed the garage door by this time). It got less listenable of course as I drove farther away but I had no idea bluetooth would reach that far.
