Taking a loaner on Vacation...is this allowed?
Hey guys,
I didn't know where to post this...feel free to move it. My car is currently in the shop and will be for the next week or so...I'm wondering if I'm allowed to take the car out of town. I don't want to phone the dealer and ask in fear that they may charge me for miles, maintenance, gas...etc. It'll be a 400 mile trip to Los Angeles and back...so it's a decent amount of miles. But I couldn't find anything in the dealer agreement or contract about this. Thanks!

From my knowledge and past experience I would say your able to go where you need to go with the loaner car, so as long you dont wreck or damage the vehicle. The car is technically a "rental" aka loaner car until your car is repaired. Hence the typical insurance check and updated information you provide them. I actually asked my service rep one time about driving to orlando and back for the weekend, which is about 350miles round trip for me, plus additonal miles just being in town. But that was my past experience. I wouldnt think they could limit the amt you are driving just bc you have a loaner vehicle.
Here is a quick scenario, say you had get several tsib's completed, brakes, valve, carb clean, etc etc.... parts were back ordered and they had to keep your car for 3-4 days. But you commute to work and its 60+ miles round trip (which alot of ppl easily commute that on a regular basis.) Are they going to tell you you cant go to work?
Anyways hope that helps.

I don't think you are obligated to stay local with the loaner. As long as you return it with the same level of fuel as you took it, you should be okay. I've never seen my dealer check mileage, but I'd research it a little further just to be sure. Also figure some people drive all day for work, so the dealer has to be able to accommodate those people with their cars. Lastly, I'd clean up the front end before you return it so the bug splatters aren't a dead give-away you drove all over the place. Coincidentally, I usually do all my SoCal beach trips with the loaner. Keeps the sand and lotion out of mine. ; )

My car was in San Antonio getting serviced and I told them I had to go to Houston that weekend. All they told me was have a safe trip and that they will call me when my car was ready.. no biggie.

From my experience at Longo Lexus, you can't take it out of state of CA, but you should be fine with taking it to LA, SF, SD as long as you return the car in the same condition with the same gas amount.
And if they ask why there's so many miles, just say it's a business trip.

I've taken a loaner out of state for weekend trips plenty of time. Returned dirty and whatever gas is left. Never had a problem. I figured the loaner is replacing my car so I can use it however I were to use my car.
