Windshield chips
On my 06 IS350 I have recently noticed quite a few chips in the windshield..probably 8 in total. They are all real small and haven't spider webbed yet. Not sure how they all got there..the daily drive is freeway and haven't noticed lots of flying gravel etc.
Anybody else notice a large number of chips? Perhaps we have soft material in the glass? I think they can be fixed pretty easily by a glass shop..gonna check out the price when I have some time

I think that depends upon the chip. Mine was not drilled, it was just cleaned and filled. Cannot see it at all except for a teeeeeeeny little spot the size of maybe two periods on the end of this sentence.

Be sure to call your insurance company first, sometimes they will pay someone to come fill them so they don't end up with a more expensive replacement (depends on your policy of course).
My own experience is it is closely related to how fast I drive. In my Maxima, which was quite a bit faster than my IS250, I used to hear rocks hitting the window at least once or twice a week, even though they didn't always chip. I got one huge chip and had it filled. Later I got another one which was actually worse than the first, never had it filled, and it never spread even after many years -- go figure.
However, with my IS250 (which I can't help but drive slower than I did in my Max), I've had it a month and a half and have not yet heard a rock hit the window. I hope that's a sign of things to come, like I said most likely related to my speed but the aerodynamics / shape of the car might play some small part in it. My route to work has not changed in several years.
