Default HID Ballast Failure

It seems my factory fitted ballast has failed. Checked the lamps, checked the fuses all OK.

Question is, where is the ballast, is it located within the Headlamp unit as I suspect?

I am prepared to do the whole thing, remove the bumper ( fender ) remove the headlamp unit etc... do I then need to take the headlamp apart?

I have a manual as such, but it stops at taking the headlamp unit out.

Any help really appreciated, as the dealer wants £950 to replace the unit.

removing the headlight is no biggie. I did it to paint my housings black. I forget the process but I was able to figure it out without a manual. You will too.

Thanks...

Is the ballast inside the headlamp unit or mounted on the outside?

looks like its on the backside of the headlight facing in towards the center of the car

its not shown in that pic but you can see the plug for the headlight bulb. that square should be where the ballast sits.

Thanks, but that square is where the access flap normally sits.

I really wish it was there though... be dead easy to change

I think I've answered my own question...

It appears... if it's the same as earlier models, it is located on the bottom of the headlight unit.

Anyone confirm?

Yes it is located on the bottom side of the headlight so you have to take the whole thing off, i changed mine out about 2 months ago.
