Just wondering. What should i avoid in car washes? I hear that carwashes with brushes can scratch your car. Im afraid since i just got the car and dont want anything going wrong.
What do u guys do to wash your car?
Im also in the boston, ma area. So if anyone knows any good ones let me know.

Me too. I have to hand wash mine. Automated places don't get in the nooks and crannies. Plus who knows what's in those brushless brushes? Stuff from other cars, that's what. Ew!

never wash your car at the dealer! they will leave MAD swirl marks! especially if your car is black.. to properly wash your car, always loosen up the dirt with some water.. wash from the top to bottom.. rinse and then dry with a microfiber towel (avoid sham wow/absorber products.. they will leave your car with swirls as well).. if you clay bar, polish, and wax.. i suggest using ONR to wash your car to leave your car swirl free

my dealer handwashes their car. this is a 6 month old loaner HS250h. look at the pretty swirls. i wouldn't trust a lot boy getting paid minimum wage to wash my car.

the way to do it is.
wash your wheels first with a good brush(i use the ez detail brush and a mothers fender brush)
2 buckets. 2 grit guards. 1 high quality sheepskin mitt.
3 oz of car wash soap(i use meg's gold class) in 3 oz of water.
i capful of ONR for scratch prevention and extra gloss.
1 high quality waffle weave or an electric leaf blower.
wash your car with the mitt back and forth in a straight line. i like to follow the way the wind would "flow" along the car. never in circles(that's how swirl marks happen). never apply hard pressure. let the mitt glide and rinse it often.
for drying with WW towel, remember top use little pressure. this is where scratches happen.

A good example of what car washes and dealer washes do to cars is to look at loaners and rentals. They have the most swirls because they get washed the most. More bad washes = more swirls. Best thing to do is always avoid automated washes and do it yourself as prescribed above.
