I just remembered something. I wasn't really paying attention at the time but my dealer (before I took delivery) had started my car by holding the key fob up to the start button somehow.

Then he had commented how he has to get it programmed "out of default" or something like that before I take the car home.

Was your fob near by the button? I ask because I hang mine right by it.

The foot on the brake is the key to the ignition starting. There should be NO WAY that it should start without stepping on the brakes. The car is programmed to start with the brake pedals on. It's kind of Manual cars having to step on the clutch to start the ignition.

The Green Light on the start button will not light up unless you step on the brake pedal. Something is strange... If it does some how trigger the start button, you car would automatically go into accessory mode.

Try to keep track if you are stepping on the brake pedal if it happens next time. Perhaps the Start button is sticking and you have the brake pedals on. But if it was sticking, it should technically shutoff after 5 seconds as an emergency engine kill.

Default Glad I found this post

I am so glad I found this post. I have had my 2007 IS 250 since Sept 2010 and I have experienced the exact same thing. I first I thought it was something I was doing, but I know its not. What were you able to find out and does anyone have any new information?

Something somewhat similar has happened to me 2x, I shut off my car went to grab something else and the car turned back on but not the engine just the power (radio, lights etc..) pressed the button turned it back off. Just creeped me out more than anything lol (Also my batteries in my remote are new_

Sounds like electronics logic problem related to ECU. Scan stored DTC using OBD II scanner. Dealer may have a
more robust diagniostic tool to nail a problem like this.
