I'm wondering if the alignment issue that seems to occur alot with the AFS lights has anything to do with Lexus discontinuing them on the 2011 vehicles. They are not available anymore. Think I read that in Motor Trend or Road and Track last edition.

I doubt it, the AFS height sensor is attached directly onto the lower part of the suspension in the form of a 90 degree joint and a lever arm that pivots with the movements of the suspension, so I understand why a super hard jolt will hit it out of wack.

Wouldn't this give it away as an impact-related misalignment? Anyway, I'll schedule an appointment this week and finally will get the low dust brake pads taken care of.... If all goes well.

Also, do you guys know if I can avoid getting the pedal recall? I don't want it done to my car.

If that sensor was knocked out of whack, BOTH headlights would be out of alignment either up or down. Not side to side, or only one of them.

Good point.

If I recall correctly, the sensor only adjust the driver side light depending on the gradient of the slop, as not to blind the oncoming drivers. The passenger side lights does not point at the left hand side so it does not matter - as a matter of fact the sensor can only be found on the rear left suspension.

There are two sensors. One on the front and one on the back. Between the both of them, they detect the ride height of the car and adjust BOTH headlights up or down in unison, not individually.

dang..
thats why I drive my minivan (R18 50)whenever I go to NY. Extra

Last time I drove my IS (stock 255R18 40)to NY, my driver's side rear tire blew off on the highway. I think there was a pot hole with one-side sharp edged because my front tire(225R18 40) was fine.
I had to drive back to PA with Spare tires on.
Driving at 65mph on I-95 for 2 hrs was not fun.

You drove at 65mph for 2 hours on a spare?

Doesn't it say, maximum of 50mph for no more than 50 miles? 65x2 = 130miles...

Got mine fixed at the dealer, no issues what's so ever.

Too bad I couldn't get the pads replaced under the TSB, since my car was just barely over 2 years old.
