The first suggestion seems the best. Coloratcj paint it. Or get it vinyled in red, it'll look legit and is wayyyyyyy cheaper, vinyl should under 40 bucks and can be removed if you get over it

I made a custom LED insert for DRL:

If you make your own, you can color match the insert piece to match the car. I used black because it is closer to stock looking and black give better contrast during bright day time.
I just finished the SMD version (prototype2) and will post pictures when I have time.
