alrite, finally did my grille surround
did it twice tho.. and it's still NOT PERFECT

the first time i didn't have the experience spray painting.. so bubbles ended up everywhere.. so ripped it off and tried again
saw that another CL member mentioned not to go left and right when spraying it on but go all the way once to prevent bubbles.. and that's what i did~
looks pretty smooth in most places.. but the top part of the grille surround is INCREDIBLY flawed! i didn't mask it properly and it was still showing some parts of the chrome.. so i tried to touch it up with a paint brush
and perhaps it's the lack of my skills.. now ofcourse the top part of the grille is not smooth

you can't really see it in the pics.. but as soon as you walk up close to it you'll see it
i'll probably do it for the THIRD time some time in the near future

sigh

Did my grill as well! Came out perfect, but I found out you can't do the Chrome L emblems on the stock rims, it catches on certain parts no matter how many times and coats I do it

Here's my grill!

Also for those who have done the chrome stripping around the windows? Can you explain that one? I cant figure out how to mask the top part where it touches the door...

looks great guys.

@ ApokC

When u put the painters tape on leave about quarter of the tape hanging off the car, and just stuff the hanging part into the seem of where the window and the body of the car meets. This will ensure that the plasti dip wont drip inside.

Also, for those that are having problems with the taping off, remember you don't have to tape it off perfectly. Leave some paint around it if necessary cause the stuff just peels right off. Peels off the rubber around the doors too.

Out of curiosity.... did you paint the grille while it was still warm? Or there was heat coming through the grille from the engine? Reason I ask is because my grille came out great after 5 coats.

However I started driving my car before the 4 hour cure time located on the Plastidip label.... I noticed the grille paint started to flake a little.....you could start seeing the Chrome showing through. Not sure if the heat was related or not, but the rest of my emblems came out great, no problems.....

lol i didn't even know there was a 4 hour cure time lolllll

well.. the car was still a bit warm when i started painting the grille surround
but the grille surround itself is never warm is it? as it's an external part of the car.. it should cool off fairly quickly?
i painted it after coming back from a local drive.. however i left it over night before driving the car after painting
it's raining cats and dogs for the entire day today and the grille still looks solid after driving in the rain!

@ Mikemoto81

I Plasti'd mine in the rain haha but I painted it when it was cold. Then I'd say after like 2 hours of when I did the first coat I drove it right after in the rain. Still looks fine. No matter what Im Dipping, I only do 3 coats, and nothing of mine has chipped or changed.

Also a side note to any "Dippers" if I can coin that phrase haha is when you're Plasti Dipping... don't worry about what it looks like when you spray it on there.

At first, it will look chunky and blotchy, don't worry bout that. Just do it like this:

1. Do a light spray that leaves dots on the chrome you're spraying, you want to see chrome and the Plastic for the first coat. Wait 10 minutes before 2.

2. This coat should cover the entire chrome piece. Wait 15 minutes before 3.

3. Before you spray, look at the "chrome emblem" or whatever from all angles, to see if you missed any part of the chrome. Then spray another heavy coat... I mean... heavy! Get it in there. Wait 15 minutes before 4.

4. Final coat, make it thin and quick. And you should be good with these 3 solid coats

5. I would wait about 30 minutes before taking ANY of the masking tape off or driving it

Hope this helped anyone that was confused XD
