- Why is My Dashboard Melting?
Guide to diagnose trouble and recommended solutions

My used Lexus IS250 has a soft, sticky dash that scratches and mars easily.

I have the same freaking issue with my dashboard... I don't dust off the dash anymore because it gets worse every time I do it! By the way, my 07 IS250 also came from Florida... Unfortunately, I am out of warranty and I guess there is nothing I can do about it...
Anyway, this problem is not simple wear and tear. I have a 1995 honda del sol and the dash still looks new!

You guys need to call dealers in Florida (north miami dealer for instance) and talk to them about it. That way, when they acknowledge that there is a known issue with the dashboards, you'll have some leverage with your local dealer or with Lexus Corporate when you try to get some service or compensation for the issue.

Wow, I'm really surprised to hear that you guys are having such a rough time with Lexus on this issue. My claim may have taken a while to get sorted out, but it ended up costing me very little OTD. Both corporate and the dealer were pretty vocal about how they want to keep the customer happy throughout the whole ordeal.
I'm wondering if the tsunami and other factors are causing Lexus to try to cut costs, which in turn affects the quality of their customer service...

Guys for me I was quoted that lexus would do the fix but ONLY the dash & not the door panels (what kinda BS is that)??, cost would be 200$. I didn't accept. I feel Lexus should pay in full because it is their mistake not something I did. A dash should not melt and fall apart in a luxury vehicle that is in pursuit of perfection....Lol To say the least I am a bit disappointed with this vehicle in terms of quality. After all the issues with the TSBs and recalls, rattling, melting of dashes, issues with car constantly pulling to the right I dont think Ill buy another Lexus.

Man, I'm glad I found this thread...my three-day old 2007 IS250 came from FL, too and I noticed that the dash was rubbery, I thought it was a new material. I was going to clean it today. Good thing I found this thread, bad thing the car is 80 miles pass 50K miles. I will still call Lexus Corporation on Tuesday to see what can be done.

i took mine in with about 48k miles on it, and its a 07' purchased around june 07'......the dealer called me first to tell me lexus will take care of it about 3 weeks ago, and it would take a week for the dash to come in, then called back a week later and said the dash is on back order till Sept 10th....then Lexus customer service called me to tell me they will take care of the dash...lol...thought they were the ones who tell the dealer to take care of it...

I have the same problem but I actually see that more on my high use areas like my inner door grip areas getting sticky. My interior is cleaned to an almost like new appearance but this bugs me everytime I see it. I don't put any thing on my dash and I always use a microfibre cloth. I believe it to be normal wear, but they should have used a more sturdy material that will last a bit longer. I think they wanted to move away from the plastic feel, but most of the interior is plastic anyway.
