So I took my car in for it's 60K service.
I normally I wouldn't make something like this a post but & I am not *****ing either. So I went to Zion this past weekend & drove out there from L.A. When I went out I noticed the gas gauge wasn't as far down as it normally would be at Barstow. Didn't really care just thought I must have had a huge tail wind. On the way back I filled up in Zion drove to Vegas for the night then left Vegas in the morning & got gas in Barstow. I filled her up in Barstow & just used about 1/4 tank back to North Hollywood. I checked tank average it said 27mpg going 80. Now I know before I had the service done I was getting like 22. All I had done was the 60K service & gas pedal & valve spring recall. Would a service like that make that big of a difference in MPG. Cuz wow i am happy. I own a house in Lake Havasu & it's 295 miles door to door. In the past i check my apprx range would say about 298ish now my apprx range says 325ish???? My brother even commented on my gas. Said damn pretty good MPG at 80. Or I might be on crack

makes sense, you drove to vegas which means no stop and go traffic, 27 mpg is not too hard to imagine. In addition i normally get around 315 for a full tank of gas, so 325 isnt too far of a stretch.
the reason it might be better after the recall is because they probably unplug your battery. that resets the ecu, and i guess since you were driving to vegas, the car learned that there is not much stop and go traffic so it went into gas saving mode.

If you really make a conscious effort to drive like a "grandma" by coasting as often as possible and being very light on the pedal making sure you are always in 6th gear, you could probably see 29-30+ MPG on long trips.
Also, driving like a grandma doesn't mean driving slow, it just means being easy on the accelerator. You can cruise at 80-90 (I wouldn't go above 90 even in the fast lane) and still drive like a "grandma."
