My range meter says about 470 miles on full tank. I usually fill up about halfway through the last quarter of a tank.

There is no point in putting up the risk of running out of gas.

I've heard it's not good to run a car out of gas. I usually fillup somewhere between 1/4 and 1/2 tank. Why tempt fate?

So if they say the tank capacity is 17.1 gallons, and I get the 0 miles left on the range, and it takes 14.2 gallons to "fill 'er up" at that indication, that makes no sense. I realize the fuel pump needs to be submerged in fuel to cool, but when does the engine shut down and say"I am outta gas"?

When it's out of gas?

Is this a trick question?

typically 1/2 and 1/4 is when i refill. always love the feeling of a full tank, though it is added weight. it's a big risk to go below 1/4 though, especially if you're in an area where the nearest gas station let alone the one you prefer to use is miles and miles away.

Got gas at 1 mile remaining after 17 runs at the drag strip, and a trip to the gas station; showed 9 miles remaining on a 15 mile drive to the gas station. Thanks to this thread, I felt a hell of a lot better knowing that my car wasn't going to die on the way there.

I have an IS250 and I can only manage an average of 350 miles per tank...

Definately good information. To me, it's good to know but not recommend unless under the circumstances.

With the known carbon problems these motors are having why would anyone want to pull the sediment from the bottom of the tank through the system?

Run it clean
