Default First engine air filter change. WOW!

So today was the first time since I bought my IS350 i changed out the air filter. Car presently has 56k miles. I know I shoulda changed it long ago, oh well. Went to Lexus dealer $27.13.

This is 56k miles of florida dirt...

Then on my way home for the heck of it I stopped at a FLAPS.

The Purolator air filter looked 100% identical and was only $14. Oh well maybe next time..

I also wanted to add that if you haven't changed yours, please do. I didn't realize how much power the car was lacking. It was still fast, but now way more responsive and torquey feeling. I pissed off a 370Z 40th anniversary today. the best part was his trophy wife in the passenger seat laughing at him at the next light.

you could have bought a K&N drop in filter for about $45 and had it for the life of the car. Great story though!

I wasnt procrastinating. I just forgot as this is the first car I've owned with ZERO problems. I have a set of plugs on order.

I was used to taking in my audi's every month for something, so all the reg maintenance items got replaced alot.

You may want to change your cabin filter too.

I've changed the cabin filter like 4 times. No real explanation why it was never changed.

go oem. you risk trouble with your car when you clean a k&n and put the oil on it.

Is there a DIY on this engine filter change? How easy or difficult is it to change the filter?

^^^ not that hard. I believe it might be in the owner manual.

Just remove the the engine cover on the left (passenger side). Then pry open the latch to the black airbox toward the front of the car. There are 4 latches total.

Then open up the airbox, and remove the filter.

Install the new filter, close airbox, latch up the airbox tight.

Put back the engine cover, and your done. Should take about 10 - 15 minutes.

I put some notes and pictures from when I finally got around to changing my air filter and cabin air filter earlier this year in my '08 IS 350:
http://shahryar.net/2010/05/31/chang...y-2008-is-350/
http://shahryar.net/2010/07/12/blitz...-obstructions/

Both filters were changed a year and a half-ish after I bought the car (The car was bought new in Jan 2009). I went over on my mileage too, both filters were done when the car was in the 25k range

They're both blitz filters so I'm trying to figure out best way of reusing and when to do it. I know the cabin air filter for sure is reusable, not sure about the air filter though. I'm at almost 34k miles now
