This hasn't actually been an issue on Toyota cars since the mid/late 90s due to the small reservoir design the pump sits in.

I still wouldn't run it dry or anything, but you're not causing harm running it till the fuel light comes on.

i tend to fill it nearing the 1/4 mark. there's no real right or wrong on when to fill up, just personal preference. also, gas prices, distance needed to travel to destination, and location tend to make my decision on whether to fill up or not.

Thought I was the only one who did this. I too typically keep my fuel pump in the 1/3 - 1/8 filled range because I like the way the car behaves with that
~100 lbs weight savings (in gas). The car noticeably feels more sprightly.

I think i like my car running on a quarter before empty, i just took out a acura tsx by more than 2 car lengths in the freeway..lol.
