woah!

bumped into this thread and i am too having crazy brake dust! i guess cause of my driving habits as well

so i just call the dealership and tell them that i would like to install TSB brake pads and it's free of charge? i can just call in and it's something they'd do for free at any random time? lol wow never knew about this!

if so i'm calling my dealership now!

The only difference is the initial bite. The original pads are more sensitive to first contact. You use less pressure at first then they fell like the dustless pads. Once you get used to the difference, you will not even notice it. The main difference is there is almost on more black dust! I would never use the original pads again; they are just too much work to prevent damage to the wheel's finish.

sorry for the question, but what does TSB stand for?
some sort of.. warrenty replacement term?

anyways.. i have a 2010 awd IS250 and i live in Canada.
i called my dealership and they said there's only one type of break pad for that car..
i also spoke to a service advisor and he said he never heard of anything such as a low dust break pad..

is this not available for the 2010 models?

TSB stand for Technical Service Bulletin I believe. I have an 2008 IS 350 and the TSB did apply for my model year. If the 2010's are still getting excess break dust then I wouldn't doubt Lexus will issue a TSB if there isn't one yet.

thanks for the definition man

alrite so i called a 2nd dealership
this advisor was more friendly and actually checked on the system to see if there were any TSBs
he said he knew about the TSBs for previous years but he doesn't see anything for the 2010 models. i guess either they haven't issued one yet? or the advisor said they may have came with the fixed break pads already since previous years had the issue

oh well i guess i'll have to wait a year or two to find out if they'll issue a TSB

The benefits are far greater then the minimal brake loss difference. At least my wheels don't look so dirty after 2-3 days after a wash.

Go for it no doubt. feels the same for me. The low dust is totally worth it! I dont have to clean my wheels every dang week. With wheel protectant, you'll never have to clean ur wheels until the next wash.

To be clear there is no "loss" of any actual stopping performance.

The only difference is in how the pads "feel"

the old dusty pads feel more "grabby" while the new low dust ones feel smoother.

Both stop the car in exactly the same distance.

(look up the formula for braking distance sometime- it doesn't ask, or care, about your brake pads)

hey VP
do you mind telling me what brand of wheel protectant you use?
i called and they don't have any low dust brake pads for my 2010 model yet

do you apply it on the wheel like wax?

Far as I know they fit any year 2IS as I don't think there's been any change to the front brakes between years.

You must already have the low-dust pads then.

The difference is DRAMATIC.

Like "wheels go from clean to filthy in 2 days" with the dusty pads compared to "Wheels still look ok a month later" with the low-dust ones.
