I recall from a member of the my.is forums is that somewhere in mid-2009, the Lexus started using dustless pads off the production line. So in essence, late 2009 and on should no be affected.

As a matter of fact, I did test drive a 2009 when the cars were out in that time and did not notice brakes braking too hard - which I am suspecting it is already dustless.

Yup that's the one! Easy to use! And Meguiars aerosol tire shine is great too! All tires done in seconds!

thanks VP~

but that aerosol tire shine is strictly for tires right? not for rims?
sigh.. unfortunately there's nothing to clean all rims in seconds
have to rub them one by one

i also heard that once you use tire shine.. you'll have to keep applying it on the tire or else when it's off, the tire looks worst than before you first applied it
is that true?

Like some other posters, overall breaking is the same but the low dust pads feel less "sticky" upon initial breaking.

I would suspect that the low dust pads will wear down the rotors more but I don't have any proof, just a hunch. The benefits far outway any possible downside if any.

^ If your warranty has expired, no.

No, as in you can't get the tsb done or no, as in it doesn't matter. My warranty's expired too and I'm getting major brake dust.

No, as in you can't get the TSIB done for free once you are out of warranty. Many dealers won't even do it in-warranty if the original pads are shot (below wear spec).

Sorry to bring up an old topic but I just got a 2007 is350. It's out of bumper to bumper warranty but still have powertrain warranty. Will it be covered? I just cleaned my wheels yesterday and drove 50 miles today and brake dust all over the wheels as if I never washed them.

^ I don't think so, but it never hurts to ask, especially if you're going in for service or something anyway.

Nope, not gonna happen. I asked about it on my '06 with 32k miles and I was told there's no way. Oh well, got me some Stop Tech Streets and PowerSlot rotors.

for those who have a problem with brake dust and cannot get the tsb
it's easy to clean the brake dust off using zep citrus diluted 4 parts water to 1 part product. You can scrub the tires clean with this as well to remove any old dressings (armoral all dressings are not water based and turn brown after a while)

Once the rim is clean you can put a coating of wax or sealant on them to fill the pores in the metal so brake dust doesn't stick as easily. I use collinite 845 and KSG for the entire rim including the inner barrels when I swap out my rims for summer/winter.

After you wax your rims, then all you need to clean them is car soap and water. Note that if you use zep on them again in the future, you will strip off the wax and have to reapply.

Dressing for the tires themselves should be water based. Some good ones are Ultima tire and trim guard, DP tire gel, and Optimum Opti-bond

I just put on some armor all wheel protectant per a forum search. It puts a layer of silicon on the wheels and brake dust slides off. I'll update on the results.

OR...you can just use the low-dust pads and not have to hope you get the right magic mix of chemicals on your rims to try and mitigate a problem that simply vanishes with the right pads.
