This SST tool to remove the filter, when I replace the filter with say, a FRAM filter from the auto store, will I also need this tool to remove the filter for the next oil change i do? Is this tool specifically for all lexus/toyota filters? Also not to side track the thread but i have a 60k Miles is250 07, Havn't done an oil change yet but I'm about there... Lookin to see whats the best optimal Oil to use for my baby. any tips appreciated thx.

Any good suggestions for an oil change 101 tutorial on what to do and ALL parts needed? I want to start doing my own oil changes on my 2008 IS 350 because if I can just change out the filter, I can make the oil last longer (at least according to blackstone's recent UOA on my mobil 1 oil). But never done an oil change before, have a limited supply of tools

The Link above is a great thread, aswell as another link within that thread http://lexustech.org/Oil.htm which shows what the SST tool looks like aswell as the lubing process. The read on the above link at the very end the write up says that the gasket under the drain plug is not re usable. Does this mean I have to go to the auto shop with this drain plug to find a gasket that will fit snug everytime i do an oil change? I've never done an oil change on my i250 since i've had it, but am familiar with Honda oil changes and this seems to be a lot more specific type of work associated with such a simple task... ugh

yes gasket is one time use, you could get away with not changing it but for a few cents it's not worth taking a chance on a little drip/mess hah

Darn, looks like its a pretty standard gasket... Might be able to pick one up at any auto store right?

Never thanked you for the link. I finished going through it tried to take notes in a blog post mainly for myself ( http://shahryar.net/2011/01/23/doing...-in-my-is-350/ ). I have to buy sway bars soon from sewell so I thought I would buy the things I need for the oil change as well in one shot. I think I only need to get the gasket under the drain plug and the Oil Filter (Element Kit - Toyota Part# 04152-YZZA3)? If I want to have supplies for 6 oil filter changes (I say oil filter because I'm going to use mobil 1 synthetic and I believe it lasts longer than the filter so I can do an inbetween filter change to make the oil last longer), I would get 6 of each right? I also want to get everything I need for a brake fluid flush on this order too but that's a different thread

Just go to autozone, or your local car parts store, and get the "F" filter wrench($5).

As I said earlier in the thread, generic stamped steel or plastic wrenches break or stretch out and slip over the filter. If you look at the customer reviews on the Amazon link you posted, you'll see it's a common complaint. Spend a few dollars more on the Assenmacher TOY640 ( http://www.amazon.com/Assenmacher-AS.../dp/B0015PK3AG )

^I just ordered the Assenmacher AST Toyota / Lexus Oil Filter Wrench TOY 640 / 09228-06501 - 64mm via the amazon link you posted - $15.25 + $4.99 for shipping.

I ordered my F-Sport Stabilizer Sway Bar Set finally tonight (Bday gift from the Mrs - something I probably shouldn't have waited 2+ years of ownership to get from everything I've read). Since I was already ordering from Sewell anyways, I also got 6 Engine Oil Filters and 6 Crush Gaskets (Oil drain plugs) in the same order.

Today I also picked up Blitz RhinoRamps™ 12,000 Portable Automotive Ramps
(Part No 11905) from advance auto parts. I was able to use a coupon to get that to $30.73.

Still need to finalize all the other stuff need, but luckily I still have a few thousand miles to go before my next oil change so I should be fine (need to hurry up and get the brake fluid done asap though because I'm at over 37k miles now - just ordered 4 of the brake fluid as well)
