Default Check Engine - VSC

My 2006 Check engine light along with the VSC light is going on. It has done this in the past one other time, however when I restarted my car it went away. This time it doesn't go away however the car drives fine. Any help?

did you tighten the gas cap? i had the same problem. this is what i did:

1. tighten gas cap
2. have several cold starts

then it went away. i hope this solves your issue.

If tightening the gas cap doesn't do it, Autozone will read the diagnostic trouble codes that triggered the check engine light for free. Without knowing what those codes are, we're just guessing.

This happen to me a few months ago. I went to Autozone and was told it could be either a loose gas cap, dirty MAF, or my o2 sensors. The culprit? A failed o2 sensor. None of these will have a major effect on your car.

That depends which O2 sensor.

The rear ones won't have any effect on your car, besides failing emissions.

The front ones have a pretty major effect on the car since it's what the car uses to adjust air/fuel ratios most of the time.

Yep, went to the dealer and told me it was because of my o2 sensor (front passenger side) and that i needed to replace my MAF sensor as well

And while you're there, purchase your own OBDII scanner. You can get basic models for about $50. If you work on your car, it's one of the best tools to have in a garage!

I was told by the Lexus tech that the worst that could happen is a minor loss in MPG. I mean...I know it's something you should take care of but, he said it was still safe to drive. Thanks for going more into detail though...
