Wow is all I have to say here gents and ladies. Some of you people are what I would consider to be pretty smart cookies! However, Your decision to buy these "OVER PRICED" extended warranties are a MASSIVE gamble at best! I have been in the automotive repair business for over 25 years now and have seen these warranties break even MAYBE 3 to 5 times. Given that our shop works on 25 to 30 vehicles a day, that's NOT very good numbers. Lets also mention what they DON'T cover... Fluids, gaskets, and normal wear items. This is a fools bet at best!
Any person with some automotive knowledge would place that same money in a money market account and earn the interest for the proceeding 5 years, and after which cash it in for a profit, NOT bet that "MAYBE" something will fail.

^ I would just let it go out of warranty. It's a Toyota at the end of the day, and unless your already having serious issues, i don't think its gonna be worth the extended warranty now. If you do get the extended warranty, it depends on what the warranty covers on whether or not things would be repaired under it.

If anything goes wrong you can usually find a fix/hook-up on CL anyways

It's 4 years/50k miles for full warranty. Powertrain is 6 yr/70k.

At full price I agree the warranty is a rip. At the price some folks sell em for on line they're a no-brainer... especially if your car is under the valvespring recall since you get another $500 off the price essentially.

I'd suggest that Ming go price some Lexus parts sometime... they're insanely expensive. I can do most of my own labor (pretty much anything I don't NEED a lift for), but the parts are drastically overpriced. For some items (rotors for example) you can get far cheaper aftermarket alternatives... but your touchscreen on the nav dies you're pretty well screwed there. ML sub blows? (and some guys have been through 3 or 4 now) you either have to rig an aftermarket setup taking up trunk space or bend over on pricing. Or most of the other electronics/ecus/sensors on the car. AFS motor have a problem? Grab your ankles.

Plus, Toyota has moved to only selling a lot of parts as whole assemblys... wheel bearing have a problem? you're buying a whole new hub. Not cheaply either.

if I had a chevy where every part on the car can be had for like 20 bucks, sure, warranty is crazy. But with what lexus gets for parts?

At about $50-100 over cost, which is what these guys are selling their warranties for, it's a pretty good insurance policy... and if you get the $500 gift card as well it's really a no-brainer that, statistically, you're going to make a profit on.

I just called Jerry today and he quoted me the same prices listed on page 2 of this thread. I ask him your question and he said once payment goes through he will mail/email you an invoice and then send it off to Lexus. After then you should receive something about extended warranty from Lexus. Then if you ever sell you car you can transfer the warranty for $50 to the new owner.
