Cig. Socket USB connector - Low profile
These newer, low profile USB power connectors are available now ..... low enough that the Tray cover will slide shut!
12VDC in. --> 5V/1AMP out.

Sorry about the big image. These are 2 for $6 shipped, they are from the Far East so it takes a few weeks. I bought 2 and they work just fine, no luxury needed with items like this, they are solid. It has a soft red light in the shape of a half-oval when you plug them in, sits flush. The easiest way to remove these from the socket would be to pull on whatever device is stuck into the USB slot. They pop out easily.
After I got my first 2, I like them so much that I found the exact same ones of eBay for $1.50 plus 15 cents shipping to US on BIN so I bought 3 more; the seller xiao2huan appears to have sold over 1,900 of these. Takes 3 weeks to arrive from HK.

About $8 incl shipping for 2 .... takes about 15-20days to get them though. The power on LED on the top surface was a nice surprise.

Yes but hasn't been as popular and cheap; meaning not many devices could use them. Now, pretty much every device from ipod to cellphone to tablet can be recharged via usb. This device is for your CLA socket but it won't be popular for long since many cars will soon has USB slots OEM.
