Does the IS350 RWD handle terribly in snow or is it just mine?

Kitsap/Hood canal. We got hit really hard with that last one, and took the brunt of those 60+ MPH winds rippin our power grids apart too.
Not fun at all in the IS....

I'm in Chicago too and the snow fall we had recenly was not that bad at all. I've driven in much worse with my IS350 and i'm not on Blizzaks but rather Conti DWS's. I think Blizzaks are overkill for Chicago. To be honest it sounds like the OP has a lead foot and doesn't know how to drive in the snow. The snow fall we had last week that you are referring to, I was driving through it on stock tires (Bridgestone Turanza's) and didn't have a problem unless I decided to hotdog it. I just got the DWS's put on yesterday and it's a night and day difference in the snow. These are my 2nd set of DWS's as the first set I used on my old IS350.

Same here bro. The IS350 is in the garege and I am in the Duramax.

I had the most trouble stopping the IS. I would lightly push on the brake and start sliding. the back wheels were turning and the front was locked until i pushed the brake pedal to the floor. WTF? it is like the front brakes lock up and the back keeps turnning at idle

Since your drivetrain has nothing to do with stopping the problem is the tires.

Agreed.

Here in Alberta we just got about 8-10 inches of snow over the past 2 days and while my IS350 does struggle in the areas which have yet to be cleared of unconsolidated snow, for the most part it does well on consolidated snow or roads that have been snow plowed. I owe my traction to my LM25 Blizzaks. I just leave snow mode on and if my traction control flicks on (usually at traffic lights when the light turns green), I just simply turn off traction control temporarily and spin tires a bit to generate a bit of momentum. Obviously once you hit 50km/hr it turns on automatically again. The 350 is not by any means a solid winter/snow vehicle, but if you take it slow and get good winter tires, it's definitely do-able.

I'm not even going to lie, I love turning off traction control and fishing tailing around empty parking lots.

The IS does this when its not warmed up. High idle = rear tires will spin even with light brake pedal pressure, rear brakes don't do much stopping. This is the same reason you can press the brakes and keep the car from moving while still managing to burn out. Once the car is warmed up and the revs fall the rear tires won't turn like that.

I just put on some 225/50/18 michelin x-ice snow tires, much better than the stock summer tires!

Not really following how AWD would help with this...and if the tires are still spinning with light brake pedal pressure why wouldn't you just press the pedal harder?

BTW, if you want to be able to do proper, safe, burnouts, one gets oneself a line lock

Well first storm to hit Ma. and took the 350 out for a joy ride during the late nite. With the snow tires had no issues what so ever. Then found and empty parking lot to enjoy it a little more with traction control off . We had over a foot of snow 350 did great.

with the gas pedal recall computer update, isn't the computer supposed to cut out throttle when you press on the brake?
