Dealership shafting, need headlight assistance!
**This is an 06 is350 with AFS**
So, I noticed my passenger side headlight was running a bit high and my state inspection was due. So I asked the dealership to check the AFS sensor and adjust as needed and perform an inspection. I was pretty sure it was the sensor that got bumped with I did my wheel and tire install a couple of months back with an alignment.
Their master tech comes back that I need a $1200 assembly because the computer in the passenger AFS is not responding. I have driven the car at night and the AFS still tracks from side to side which leads me to believe its the sensor that is out of position. The car is 12k out of warranty and this is the same dealership that sliced my AC lines when they did the fuel rail TSB. So, less than thrilled with them.
So, questions. 1) I read the sensor is in the rear suspension area, is it on both sides? would that account for one headlight running higher than the other?
2) any other creative solutions before I drop money into some used parts for less than half the cost?

I would definitely adjust the sensor near the rear axle, your theory of it being bumped seems most likely. You can also adjust your headlights from the front of the car using a screwdriver, but do the rear axle method first.
Read this: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/att...dlight_aim.pdf and this: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...t-success.html on how to do the screwdriver method. Couldn't find a DIY on the rear axle, but I believe it's passenger side.

Thank you!
Thank you for your response. I had the dealership slap the rejection stick on the car. They were also quoting $44 for windshield wiper blade inserts My track record with this dealership is not wonderful.
I took some pics of the current alignment situation and it is visibly off. When I got the car back, I tried turning AFS off to see if the lense would center (to be honest I am not sure if it would or if it would stay stationary) and there was not change. The troubled one is the passenger low beam.
passenger- lense is pointing higher in the housing.
drivers for comparison
My plans are failing the AFS sensor adjustment, and manual screwdriver one is to pull the headlights, bake them and get my hands inside. I've been meaning to paint the housings for a long times anyways....
Does anyone know if the AFS computer is built into the ballast? Last ditch plan is to hit up a junk yard for replacement parts.
