Good luck with your new car! I've had VW's before and while I will agree that sometimes reliability may be a issue, I would have no problem getting another VW. Is there any special reason why the jetta won you over? Was it hard not driving a 306hp IS350?

Don't miss the 306hp because realistically you get to the next red light and sit there while the guy you left at the last red light in his Prius pulls beside you and the cycle begins again. I had a Mustang GT before the IS350.
The TDI carves through traffic with 236lbs of torque from 1700rpm, very easy to hit small openings between vehicles in heavy traffic with almost instantaneous DSG shifts. My IS350 was quick off the line but had delays in shifting and required high rpms to keep in the fat part of the torque band.
I doubt seriously anyone hating on the Jetta TDI has ever driven one.

I owned the 2003 Jetta GLI (purchased new)....so I have some insight into this situation.
The torque steer was horrible and it broke down within the first month of ownership. Granted, it wasnt the diesel version but the GLI and the TDI are very similar and it really doesnt hold a candle up to the lexus brand.
But ya know....its whatever. I'm sure the jetta is less of a note and that may be what you need right now so there's no hate. Good luck but I do think it was a downgrade.

That's why there is so many cars on the market; one man's ceiling is another man's floor. If you will get more use out of the VW and enjoy it more what's not to like. Enjoy the ride and forget the naysayers. I had a Subaru WRX at the same time I had my IS and I actually enjoyed driving the WRX more, just felt more connected although the IS is far better in creature comforts. So it depends on what is important to you. My only shyness with German products is reliability.

2006 IS has not exactly been problem free, more recalls and times in the shop than I care to remember. Dealer service is first rate though.

I was looking for something with better fuel economy and a high residual value.

Dude you're in the wrong forum if you're trying to convince people that trading in an IS350 for a jetta was a good idea...good luck to you and your car.
