IS250 - How slow is it?
#32
Yeah wealthy people dont spend a whole lot on their daily drivers lol, but for every one of their Camry's and Accords they have at least 2 Ferrari's in the garage to make up for it.
I dont know what you mean 250 by slow, 90% of the cars are on the road are slower than the 250. I can hit the speed limit in 5 - 6 seconds, I can cruise at 70, speed to 80 in like 1 sec to over take. 250 is not for street racing if thats what you mean.
I like to have my 250 as a daily driver, nice, stylish and preppy. For speed and sheer excitement, I got something very nice in mind to get

meh.. the 250 serves its purpose. its not extremely slow. its enough for the street and daily spirited driving. Better in gas too. just depends on what you are looking for. besides i needed AWD
i think the 250 is fun enough as a commuter/comfy car.
ITS NOT THHHHHHHHHHHHAAT SLOW.. considering most econo/passenger cars out there has 130-140hp. People tend to exaggerate.
thats why opinion. to each his own

I recently had a 2005 Subaru STI with 312whp/345tq and thought i'd miss the power/raw feeling of the drive but now i have my 2008 is250 awd and it suits me better.
i drove like an old fart anyways in my subaru to conserve gas as i commuted 45 miles a day to and from work. The is250 is obviously way under powered compared to the sti but it holds its own for my liking. I recently started using the etc power mode for quicker pedal/throttle response and i'm liking it (while keeping a light foot to conserve gas hahah).
I even test drove the 2011 is350 awd (at the dealership) before buying my is250 awd and it wasnt much of a difference (between the is250/350) and still much slower when compared to my daily driven STI.
It really depends on your driving style/habits and wants/needs while driving/commuting. I like my is250 a lot as it's much quieter (compared to the sti), has a luxurious and more sophisticaed feel to it, it still has the sporty appeal to it that i wanted and i kept the awd system (although different to the subaru's). I do sometimes miss the raw power of the sti but with my commute to and from work and driving around town, my 2008 IS250 awd definitely suits me and has adequete power (even at 205hp, which is more like 160 to the wheels, more or less).

honest answer its pathetic slow unless your my mom or grandmother then you would hate it, I test drove one before i bought my 350 and a civic is faster.
its kinda sad that you try to even mod a is250 unless its all show, cause civics will be faster than you.
I seen a few at the track running 16s modded , its sad.....

I had a IS250 last week as a loaner while my GS350 was in for factory recall repairs. I would say it's sufficient for daily driving, but it will never be associated with the word "powerful". When the accelerator was floored, torque seemed lacking a bit and the engine was laboring. The 350 is much more capable power-wise.
But the 250 is pretty good with gas. I got 30mpg with mostly freeway driving.

Right because if you reach 55 mph in 3 seconds you will have won the envy of everyone in the world, you will succeed in life and become rich? lol
Seriously, what is wrong with a 250 that makes you so negative about it? The 250 outsells the 350 by a huge margin, by your definition most Lexus IS customers, and many 250 owners on here, are:
Dumb, boring, your mom, or your grandma.
Also by your definition, the people out there in cars such as Corolla, Yaris, BMW 325, A4, TT, Z3, Sienna, Civic, Lancer, Eclipse, Mazda 3 and many other cars are also along the outlines above.
This is beginning to feel like a Honda or BMW forum

I daily drive a 250 and it's fine for my need. It's comfortable and has enough power to merge onto the freeway and pass any car effortlessly. It also saves a lot on gas, i believe you get 5 or 6 more miles per gallon. The only thing it probably won't do is street race against a mustang off a red light. I'm not a street racer, so I don't need to zoom when the light turn green.
It's not that slow, it's a lot faster than than the previous japanese cars I've driven: scion tc, camry, honda accord fit, civic.
Also living in los angeles, there's not much room to zoom around, everybody drives slow...really slow during rush hour.

If it's a summer night and some punk in an IS350 wants to get beat, well, there's always the camaro for that...

250 is good for me.
I came from a 95 Corolla, to 99 Solara Camry to IS250 AWD.
HP wise from the Solara to IS250 is about the same except for the weight as the IS is heavier however gained better fuel economy when switching to the IS.
