Default 2010 IS 250 Really low MPG

Hello everyone. Im kind of concerned about my lexus. I bought it brand new 6 months ago and it looks like is wasting too much fuel. I used 91 octane fuel and i treat this car really good. But i never get more that 12 miles per galon in long trips it gaves me like 35 mpg. something out of control. I live in an island and i dont know why is doing this. Please help.

May be your driving style.
Highway mileage sounds good at 35mpg
Around town 12mpg seems low. Quick starts could do it.

If that's not the case have dealer check it out. Should be warranty item.

Welcome to the Club!

35mpg in highway is possible. That's fine.

12mpg? Are you using the car's MPG computer? That is sometimes inaccurate, especially in traffic, since it calculates and times you at 0 mpg while at a stop or crawl.

Mine shows 22-24MPG in the city of Houston. Not bad I guess. But I never got 35MPG on highway driving 70-75mph. Highway I got 28mpg. All in computer's reading.

1)check tire pressure, or just bring it to the dealer and have them check it. (free)
2)make sure ect pwr switch is off
3)heavy foot..

i used to average pretty low until i checked my tire pressure and saw how low it was. now i average 21-22 in city.

I get exactly the same as you. Nice to see someone else getting the same thing! I thought my car was weird the whole time. But from real calculations, my 28 mpg turns into mid to lower 25 mpg.

I think it may be the way you drive in the city.

I agree letting the dealer check it out is probably a good idea. I also agree it could be driving style in the city since your getting avg MPG on the long trips. The only other thing that comes to mind is do you let your car idle a lot? On start up or running into the store or someone's house etc? That would also have a negative impact on MPG

Definitely something to get checked out. I get around 360 miles per tank on my is250. 12MPG is just horrible. Since you said you arent driving like a crazy person, and its real numbers (not from the display), take it to the dealer. I've never really seen a topic like this solved on the forum. There was one recently, and the best the forum had as advice was to take off his aftermarket intake which was screwing with the MAF sensor. So it's not likely to get a clear and concise answer on this. PLEASE post back with details though when it gets straightened out so it can be answered if the topic ever arises again
